The Penguin Episode Discussion thread.

I got a little confused because of when it premiered, but it looks like new episodes drop on Sundays.

In her nightmare/therapy session, I found myself wondering if Sophia really was "The Hangman" or if she survived an attempt by him on her life.

Oz's mom makes me sad. However, since he lied about her being dead, I'm guessing Vic is the only person who knows about her. Also, interesting that Oz's brothers are dead.

He is being shown as a both a master manipulator and someone who adapts and thinks on his feet. I really like this version.
I'm getting strong Francis Urquhart vibes with this guy...

Good night, Westley. Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning.
So Oz will retire at the end and Victor will become the Dread Mobster Penguin? That's one way to support Reeves saying Penguin will be in the next movie with Farrell saying he doesn't want to wear the Penguin costume again.

I'm going to check out episode 2 tonight. The 1st was excellent, but not exactly what I was expecting. Which isn't bad, it's nice to be surprised.

I mean there's no chance of that, thankfully, not least because Farrell is great in the role and the kid who plays Victor could never possibly live up to that.

Plus, any movie role is going to be much less chair time for him (both on screen and off) than this series. I'm sure he'll succumb to the torture of donning his suit for the right money and right script.

I was joking. Farrell's statement was that he's not doing a season two,not that he's never playing the character again.

"Or, to put it more bluntly: 'I never want to put that fucking suit and that fucking head on again,' which is what Farrell reported feeling to Total Film shortly after shooting wrapped. "

Never must mean different things.

Love this show and for a show set in a superhero universe it is refreshingly grounded and that's good.

Still can't get over the fact that the make up person should get every award there is, turning Colin Farrel this unrecognizeable and believable is a masterpiece and Farrel sells it so well.

Another welcome surprise is Miloti, whom i only really know from How i met your mother and this role is the polar opposite and she's brilliant as well as a psychotic timebomb. I can't wait for her to find out that Oz killed her brother.

Daniel Craig 2015 "I'd rather slash my wrists than play Bond again."

Daniel Craig 2019 starts filming No Time to Die

I liked the second episode.

I'm not sure I quite see Oz as a master manipulator. A lot of his plans seem quite obvious if anyone in the Falcone family had half a brain. I think where he excels is in his quick-wittedness, he thinks on his feet very well which is presumably the reason he's still alive.

It still seems ridiculous that no one is noticing him visiting Salvatore Maroni in Blackgate Prison. That's surely not under the radar?

Farrell and Milioti continue to be superb. The kid playing Vic is better. Best of all we get Shohreh Aghdashloo and she's always a welcome sight.

It was good to get some background and spotlight on Vic last night, but I can't wait for Sophia's story next week! I love that the new drug is based on something they gave her in Arkham. I wonder if it will have nasty side effects?

After hearing about this new drug, and how Sophia had been exposed to it in Arkham, I have to wonder if Arkham itself isn't the biggest and baddest super-villain in the Batman Universe...

Oz is being written as the opposite of a "master manipulator". Maybe he will become a better strategist over the course of the series, but right now he's a "fake it till you make it" mafioso.

I explain it by believing everybody is severely underestimating his ambition and skills. He was the right hand man of Falcone and that gives him a bit of a name and access but all the families are still doing business the usual way and Oz is flying completely under the radar because they can't entertain the thought that Oz might be capable of playing such a dangerous game.
