Green Lantern on HBOMax

Now the rumor mill is saying Matthew McConaughey and Ewan McGregor are Plan B names if Brolin says no.
I had been actually thinking, mainly in response to @the G-man commenting about the same actors turning up that McConaughey hasn’t done a superhero film yet, despite looking pretty much the part. But if this series is supposed to be something like True Detective, his casting might be a bit on the nose.

This is a really clear explanation for your feelings about this. I was surprised that me too, although I don't have the same strong reaction to it that you do. I just rolled with it when the first story appeared. It doesn't change Alan's history. He still loved Molly and had a love with her, it's just that, like many other gay men of his day, he lived most of his life in the closet not coming out until recently. DC could have done that story line with any other JSA character, but decide to go with Alan---I am going to guess it was because the Earth 2 Alan had already been established as gay.

I do wonder if it wouldn't have been okay to make Alan bi, instead.

I didn't know any of that. When was this explained?"

Oh I don't know that this was ever officially stated anyway, it's my own speculation but I think it makes a lot of sense.

Is the Starheart from the All-Star Squadron story? Or is that something different?

To me his power source has always been the Starheart but that's because I first encountered him in the early 00s JSA series. I can't seem to find where it started to officially be called that but the All-Star Squadron stuff would make sense since he clearly wasn't part of the Lantern Corps.

I remember the ending to that story (in an Annual I believe) and thinking it was so cool that it tied Scott's Golden Age Lantern more closely to Jordan's Silver Age. I imagine there were probably pre-internet fans complaining about how the incompetent writers destroyed Alan Scott's character and their own childhood fandoms.

McConaughey is actually pretty much my dream casting for Green Arrow, especially a "Longbow Hunters" version but really any post-Neal Adams redesign version.

He's still pretty iconic and the Starheart being unique gives him some extra cache in my opinion.

I'd say my personal (Earth) GL Rankings would be:

1. Guy Gardner
2. John Stewart
3. Original Alan Scott
4. Jessica Cruz
5. Kyle Rayner
6. Simon Baz
7. Hal Jordan
8. DC Rebirth Alan Scott
9. New 52 Earth 2 Alan Scott

With 1-4 being great, 5-6 being ok, and 7-9 just being bad. I'm not counting the Far Sector GL because I don't think she's canon but she'd be after Hal if she was on the list.

So Alan obviously fell very far after the New 52/Rebirth, although to be fair I just ignore him nowadays more then I'm actively angry. Hal Jordan is probably my most actively disliked Earth GL at this point, but I'll still read stuff with him if he's a side character which I won't do with modern Alan Scott so Hal gets to stay slightly above the bottom of the list.

In brightest day. In darkest night.
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those worship evil's might.
Beware my power. Alright Alright.

Now some random site is throwing Chris Pine and Timothy Olyphant out there as possibilities.

Most casting rumors are from agents trying to get their clients' names out there or from websites looking for clicks who make stuff up because there are no consequences for being wrong.

Wasn’t Pine supposed to be back in the running for the film that ended up casting Ryan Reynolds?

Hmmn.

I want Lucas Till.

Although, how believable would it be for a super genius like MacGyver, to be cast to a new part as an Idiot?

No clue who he is, but he's in a better age range (for my tastes.)

He was the new MacGyver.

In the first episode, the boss, sick of his shit, brings in their secretary to dictate a memo, "No more paperclips. Paper clips are banned from this office. Anyone seen with a paper clip from now on, is fired."
