I love Into Darkness. Lots of people don’t, and have reasons that make sense to them. I’ve read a lot of those reasons over the years, here. Never really felt the need to be personally offended. Other ideas is a reason I’m a member here to begin with.

It would be pretty dull if everyone agreed with me.

I actually enjoy Into Darkness more than ST09, to be honest. It's not a perfect movie and the direct Wrath of Khan references are clunky, but it's got a more coherent script that didn't get hamstrung by the writer's strike and doesn't feature a plot device as silly as red matter.

Hard to decide, they're both flawed in different ways. I guess if I had to choose one to rewatch right now it would be 3 for sheer escapist entertainment. But I respect 1 for trying to do something that wasn't just a TNG reunion, before it all spiralled into eye gouging and space tentacles.

I also enjoy ID more than '09, FWIW. I suspect there's no correlation between that and whether one enjoys PIC, but it would be interesting if there was! Both certainly have a nostalgia factor involved.

I'm not sure who hated S1 but is now defending it; it seems to me that most of the respondents are saying they think S1 had a fair number of problems and that they simply find it ultimately less problematic than S3. What I'm seeing more indications of is that during and initially afterward, S3 was enjoying a bit of a honeymoon period that's now passed.

I'd do a full thread explaining everything I like about Picard Season 3, meaning a Season As A Whole Thread, but I decided a while ago that there would be no point to it.

This is the life-cycle of things on TrekBBS (and much of the Internet in general): "I love it!" --> "I like it!" --> "I don't like it!" --> "I hate it!" --> "I forgot about it!" --> "It's not as bad as I remembered!" --> "I like it."

When we get closer to the end of this cycle, then I'll reconsider. [EDITED TO ADD: Assuming the board is still around by then.] Otherwise, what I've already posted previously elsewhere will have to do. It's just not a receptive audience right now.

In the meantime, I get a kick out of people defending Season 1 who hated it at the time. I liked it in 2020 and Today.

Season 1 is easily my favourite because I don't like too much nostalgia and season 2 was just woeful from the second they go back in time. Same as you I liked it then and now.

Anyone active in a particular corner of the internet eventually runs into a group chat where a subset of people fall into meta-commentary of what's going on with that particular Reddit or blog, and coordinate responses. A filibuster basically exists to burn out time. No one will be changing their mind. This isn't calling for an echo chamber, it's calling for something productive.

The Lord Matalas cult thing is practically trolling. 12 MONKEYS is one of the best genre series of the 2010s. The fact that Matalas jumped up from being a story editor to a showrunner in two years is a remarkable accomplishment. PS3 garnered numerous award nominations. Hollywood has been very slow to get going again post-pandemic and post-strikes, but Matalas already has had a pilot produced, at least one screenplay commissioned, and now is the showrunner of a Marvel project. Does anyone even know what Aaron Harberts, Gretchen Berg, or Michelle Paradise are up to now? Star Trek fans are known for paying attention to the credits. Oh that's a Ronald D Moore episode. Oh Braga wrote that one? Why would that be any different here, especially considering the wide portion of the fanbase that's hated almost everything else NuTrek related?

I welcome productive and started a thread with that in mind. But, I do not care about writers or producers or their credits or curriculum vitale. I want to know your reactions.

I don't care about "the fandom". That's too broad and generalized to have any significant meaning, other than tribalism. I don't care about other scifi shows. I'm here to talk about Star Trek. Either a show works, or it doesn't.

I don’t really care about any opinion but my own. Is it nice to get likes? Sure. Everyone likes their opinions validated. But it’s not the overriding reason for it. At the end of the day, I offer criticism for Picard because I want to like it. Because I see things that could be better for me if they did things a little differently. There is probably about a third throughout all three seasons that I do enjoy.

But my and other opinions should not be invalidated because people want safe spaces. Believe me, as a TLJ fan, I’ve taken a lot of flack for my enjoyment of that movie. For a long time I debated the points, even when I was tired of doing so. Now I simply say I don’t need to relitigate the argument. At some point we’ll get there with Picard. But asking for voices to be silenced because they don’t agree with the masses? Please.

As for the Lord Matalas thing? There is some truth to it in some parts of fandom. It’s not everyone. But sometimes you also have to learn to have a sense of humor about yourself. I have no problem with Terry Matalas. I don’t agree with everything he and his writers wanted to do with Picard but anyone who produces a tv show that is popular has some decent talent about himself. I have a problem with the fans who (1) say he can do no wrong and (2) tell me I’m wrong for not loving him and his work. It’s too much. If you can’t see that, then I’m sorry.

I'm not sure what you were expecting of this thread. I think the title is pretty unambiguous. Nobody's forcing you to interact with it at all. You could have cast your vote (or not) and walked away. Plenty of other threads to look at, right?

I have no particular opinion regarding Matalas. I question his decisions regarding PIC, but I don't know why anyone would let whether I like what he did influence whether they like what he did.

I'd encourage you to retract the "practically trolling" comment, as it's my understanding that, unless you're a mod, those kinds of assertions, even mitigated by "practically" are inappropriate.

I'm extremely critical of DSC Seasons 1 and 2, PIC Season 2 and bits and chunks of both series over their other seasons on the air. I love SNW, PRO and LD.
