I'd say, or hope, that anything lost era will add variants rather than erasing existing uniforms. We've already seen a "close enough" approximation of the MM in SNW, so I don't think it's going anywhere.
I really hated that variant of the MM in SNW, it was like they were saying "We know we don't have to get this right, but we can give you scraps of almost-continuity and you'll thank us for it".

That said, I think they could totally get away with a variant of the Enterprise C bridge if it ever appears again, because we barely get to see it in Yesterday's Enterprise. It's smoky, scorched and they never turn the lights on properly. As long as they do a good job of replicating the elements we see clearly and getting into the spirit of its design, they could please people who want it to match and people who want a flashy re-imagining at the same time.

It was the strap for me, very distracting. But I appreciate the effort for a first attempt. The original sketch looked great, and I'm sure it's out there somewhere.

I'd be ok with an alternate bridge for the C. The A had 3 different versions in its short life, and as you mentioned before, some had better-looking tech than the one that followed.

I kind of want to see the Enterprise-C now.

There's a 3000 page thread about Chief Kyle being recast, so I'm not sure it'd be entirely uncontroversial if they did it to Picard.

The Bond franchise got away with recasting the lead over and over until he was 40 years younger than Q because it kind of had to. James Bond Jr. was not the future of the franchise. It helps that when it happened, the Bond films were becoming a bit of a parody of themselves, so people just went with it. And by Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan it was part of the series tradition.

Recasting major characters is not part of Star Trek tradition, it happened like once 40 years ago and I don't think people were particularly impressed at the time!

They'll likely want to start a new series at some point due to comic book reboot logic: more people tune in for season 1 than season 8. And there's no way the studio is going to be okay with keeping the same ship unchanged for longer than seven years, that's the whole reason the studio mandated the Enterprise D had to be destroyed in Generations after all.
Refits are a thing, too. Following one ship with a dynamic crew would be a nice change of pace from the people stuck at the helm or ops or first officer for 20-30 years.

Yeah, it does make sense that people would want to repeat the choice TNG made in the hopes of having a similar experience with the next show.

But did TNG's time jump actually benefit the series? Did it have any effect on it at all?
Yes, it gives them a relatively clean slate to be able to use what came before optionally and can build on what came before while not behing bound by it. Changes can be explained "oh that happened x years ago due to a, b, c." We're left with our imaginations for what happened to our favorite characters and can still imagine their continued adventures. Everything doesn't need to be filled officially, either, though old characters can come in via aging and/or time travel shenanigans (though Deep Faking technology is getting there, too).

The other alternative is the reboot, which I despise. Prequels are almost always messy continuity wise.

But then we circle back to comic book reboot logic, more people tune in for season 1 than season 8. There will come a point likely before the show even reaches ten seasons let alone twenty when TPTB will decide to just end it and start a new series thinking they can bring in more new viewers that way.

Maybe, maybe not. Law & Order SUV is up to season 25, the Simpsons is up to season 35, and Doctor Who is... well, it's at season 1, but that's because they reset the numbering again. It has actually just finished its 40th season.

If any science fiction franchise has the brand power and storytelling potential to start an ongoing series that just runs and runs forever, it's Star Trek.

I know it’s been done in novels already, but I’d really like a series about Harriman stepping up to become a good captain of the Enterprise-B in wake of the disastrous shakedown cruise. See him really come into his own and shake off the guilt. Perhaps it’s even why Starfleet started putting counselors on ships.
