Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

Sorry I’m late to the party…er… thread. You are super skilled and it’s fun to see you develop your ideas in “real time”. I’ll go back to lurking now 😜 and appreciate your work

Apologies if someone already said this: The dark areas on the front outboard side of each warp nacelle at first glance read to my eyes as rendering errors, or holes in the nacelle surface.

And that really is all I’ve got. This is quite lovely.

I didn't think that would work...... but it does. Or is that just me?
It know looks like it's not just an antenna, but something with raw power behind it. Feeding it.
I need to do more work on it, to help it sit better on the ship. But I think this is a good direction to go in.

Thank you ;-)

Those are "flux chillers" not holes. I'm still playing with the texture maps, so it will change and become lighter, more obvious.

Potential idea for the deflector -

Not sure I like this. Comments welcome, more tomorrow for sure.

I get what @Professor Moriarty saw initially. The flux chillers at first glance are close enough to your background color that they could be mistaken for areas that did not render (or had their normals flipped). A lighter color and maybe a different color on the horizontal grilles on the inside of the chiller could help, IMHO.

As stated before, it's a minor texture tweak and it's in hand :techman:

Deflector updates, I think I've got something I finally like, and that works with this design -

Doing your own take on the Connie, using your own unique style, was a great move. It's definitely something that fits right in and is still unique.
Also, now you have two different Connie platforms to create Miranda's from. ;) ;)

Good luck at the hospital, I hope all goes well!

Evil, just evil - because now I can't stop seeing how a Miranda based off this platform would work, lol.

I'll finish this one up, have a go at a retro-ish shuttle that fits with it, and then have a short break and then come back and tackle a Miranda.

Hospital is always fun. They wanted blood, lots of it. I had to ask if they planned on leaving me any, vampires *shudder* good thing I have tricky veins that make their lives interesting, lol.

I do have a story I have to finish, before the end of the year - which is still plenty of time. I put it on hold after dad-in-law passed away. Need to get back to it. I need a clone or two. One for the doctors to play with, one to do 3D stuff and one just to write. That would free up some time

More tomorrow. Food time, and I'm cooking.

That's simply stunning!! I'm glad you decided to make your own Connie.
Thank you - and I mean that quite sincerely. I would not have done my own if you hadn't issued the challenge. I've actually always had a golden rule, which is not to do a Constitution - so many have done them, and done them well. I try to avoid duplicating what already exists, or if I do a ship that does exist, I make sure to put my own stamp on it (like I did with the Oberth and the Excelsior).

This was... different, this was a challenge to take what I consider the best from the various on-screen iterations and make something of my own. Stylistically it has been interesting, and fun. There were no wrong answers with this one. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, it may not fit with everyone's eye as to what a Connie should be - but that was, in essence, the brief you gave me.

I'm thinking a few things about this one - maybe doing the interior of the hanger bay, so I can do some action renders. That would require a shuttle that fits the style. That's already on the cards. The room behind the windows is my TMP one. I may create something new and replace those textures on the light-boxes. With the rooms in place, this would just be a texture swap. (easy - if you define creating a new set as easy, lol).

I have really enjoyed this particular project. I've created my own ships before, but this feels more personal.

So next up, a shuttle - the Kamcaira (it's a made-up name, or maybe it's a region on Vulcan, or Andor or Tellar - or a famous person's surname, who knows? Ok, yes, I made up the word...) will get a shuttle bay, which is going to big on this ship...

And then yes, I am taking a break for a while. I'm getting close to burnout. I need - have - to do something different for a while.

Well, I'm happy that I was able to motivate you in such a manner!! You definitely rose up to challenge. For me, this goes right up their with the TMP version and SNW in a shared spot as my favorite take on Star Trek's most classic ship.
