Tawny Newsome and Justin Simien developing new live-action Trek series

No. I find the negative reaction confusing.

Premise revealed in Comicon:

Federation outsiders serving a gleaming resort planet find out their day-to-day exploits are being broadcast to the entire quadrant.

That is the first impression you are giving an audience on the Premise . You find it confusing people might have a strong reaction on that description that could lean towards something positive or Negative? ( in this case more Negative)

People by nature are not neutral on first reactions.

People sometimes decide whether to buy a book based on what's on the back cover. It's not confusing at all. It's human nature to say " he that sounds interesting " or " that sounds not good at all!"

In this case, based on what we know so far, this is the feedback we are getting. I'm not surprised at all honesty.

Your in the FUTURE of Trek forum which by default is a speculative forum.

Theres official news on a new Star Trek show.

A thread is started here. And you expect a smattering of responses on that Premise to be naetural with a few people saying " hmm let's wait until we learn more!" Let's just be happy a new show is coming!

Really?

Were you born yesterday?

Your going to get wild takes and speculation on a new show. Especially with that intial premise reveal.

You want informed appraisals? Go to episode review thread. And THOSE are still filled with some uninformed opinions .

I believe people can grow. I don't see a reason to be negative. Not enough information.

If this Premise was submitted as a fan proposal on this forum 2 years ago with a poll on whether it sounds good or bad, you honesty would find it confusing if most people voted Negative?

Actually it doesn't matter to you. There could be tons of info. You already said the episode needs to air before an opinion on the premise would be "informd"

You realase the negative reaction is based on what is being reported. Not an episode or show review.

I will be positive and say the premise doesn't immediately put me off in the way that Starfleet Academy and Section 31 does. Mostly because I've never had any reason to ever imagine it or form an opinion about it until now, and I'm still not sure what it even is.

If SA is more along the lines as First Duty or Lower Decks ( TNG) or Valient (DS9), than it could work IMO. Hopefully the teen angst won't be over done. ( I think its unrealistic to expect none)

S31 at least is a one off and easier to tolerate if it's a dud

Gleaming resort planet? I'm just thinking Risa.

It could be good, I just want to know when it's tentatively set because we'll know whether to expect legacy characters or not. They'll all be stopping by for a holiday like it's the bar from Cheers, or something.

A sitcom on Risa. Sounds like a sitcom on Hawaii. I liked "Captain's Holiday", I didn't like "Let He Who Is Without Sin". I do like some sitcoms, but they're not normally my thing. This could go either way.

Maybe I'm just neutral on this but I don't have enough info to weigh in.
Someone who's truly neutral doesn't push so hard. It's okay to say you're looking forward to this.

I can't wait to see it. Loved Office and other similar comedies and can't wait to see similar show set in the Star Trek universe.

I wonder if Armin Shimerman would be up to coming back as Quark full time? Or at least as a regular guest star. He would fit right in.

- "The new series is intended to be an action comedy that, according to Paramount, centers on Federation outsiders who are serving on a gleaming resort planet. Not only that, their day-to-day exploits are being broadcast to the entire quadrant.
Sources have said the show may have workplace comedy tones of The Office or Parks and Recreation.

Simien, Newsome and Trek franchise czar Alex Kurtzman will write and executive produce the series. Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth are also exec producing. CBS Studios is producing the show.

The show, if it goes to series, would join a line-up of live-action and animated series that includes Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks and the upcoming Starfleet Academy."
~ I think this sounds AWESOME! I love Lower Decks and (most of) the fun, comedic episodes of other Trek, so this news is really exciting!
I'm done with miserable, serious, angsty people doing horrible or questionable things - there's enough of that in real life - so bring on the fun!

He’s said before he’s done with coming back in live action as long as it’s not a starring role because of the makeup time.

Why would they?
Well there is the thing about the characters being Federation outsiders.

Then again, assuming this resort is in fact in Federation territory, I guess there’s no reason Starfleet personnel wouldn’t be welcome there. We know Risa, for example, always welcomes Starfleet guests. As does Wrigley’s Pleasure Planet.
