Tawny Newsome and Justin Simien developing new live-action Trek series

Well there is the thing about the characters being Federation outsiders.

Then again, assuming this resort is in fact in Federation territory, I guess there’s no reason Starfleet personnel wouldn’t be welcome there. We know Risa, for example, always welcomes Starfleet guests. As does Wrigley’s Pleasure Planet.

What about Stardust City?

Certainly. I'd love to see more of the 22nd and early 24th century.

I believe the new movie Star Trek: Origins has the 22nd century covered.

It's still a vocal minority.

The amusing thing is when you read what it is these fans want, and knowing that even if they were to get some kinda follow-up to Picard, it wouldn't even approach the pie in the sky ideas they're throwing around.

And thank God for that.

The SNW fans got their show and they hate it already  ("Nurse Chapel done gone woke!")

Just like SNW ... :shifty:

Well, no, not at all.

The genesis of SNW was born from the energy and "magic" on-screen between Mount, Peck, and Romijn. Their chemistry was something both fans and suits alike immediately latched on to and itwas apparent to anyone they should do something with it, even if no one knew exactly what that something was.

Legacy is an idea proffered by someone that tapped into puerile desire with nothing particularly tangible to point to.

In other words, fans fell in love with SNW. The fell in love with the idea of Legacy.

That’s different, because it is 1) not in Federation territory, and 2) an obvious con intended to bilk customers out of their money (how else do you explain the invasive ads that Rios had to swat his way through?).

Stardust City is not a resort. It is a casino. And it wouldn’t surprise me one damn bit if (as is, I’m sure, true in Quark’s bar and most RL casinos) the games are rigged so the customers always lose.

The Federation, OTOH, does not operate in this way.. Their resorts are genuinely intended to help people relax and blow off steam, with no risk to themselves. Entirely the opposite of Stardust City and everything it stands for.

Might have golf course, hotels and other amenities as well.

I'm not writing the series off at all at this stage, it could be really good, though I think I'd feel more positive about it if I had also gotten the things I had asked for.

I mean, right now the future of Star Trek is:

Starfleet Academy - I've always hated this concept.
Section 31 - Not keen on this idea either.
Untitled action comedy set on a resort - Uhh????
Strange New Worlds - Love, Gorn and hijinks.

I feel like there should be a proper Star Trek series in the mix as well. And I'm not even THAT picky about how I get it, as I was satisfied with Lower Decks being my proper Star Trek show. Now Lower Decks has gone and I have nothing left to be hyped about.

If that isn't the title of Season 3 episode 1, I'm going to be pissed.

Nobody asked for this.

"But Saul! Nobody asked for The Next Generation and look how well that did!"

Go away.

Actually, lots of people, if asked pre-1987 if they wanted a new Star Trek TV show, would probably have said yes. Because a spinoff of TOS was not a thing back then. Unlike now, where they give any Tom, Dick and Harry a Trek show or movie to produce.

But I get your point.
