Renewed for Season Five before Season Four even airs.
Makes sense. The show was already running on fumes a bit.Season 5 will be the last.

So apparently Kripke always had a 5-year plan for the show. Makes sense, as that's what he originally had for Supernatural.
Which the then came back and released a sequel to a few years ago.Which from what I remember in the comics did have a definitive ending.
I think Kripke has a bit more control here. However, I did see that there are expected to be spinoffs in addition to Gen V.So then Kripke is going to leave after S5 and someone will come in and the Boys will run for another decade? At least this time it looks like the finale will be FINAL and a conclusion to the story.
Which from what I remember in the comics did have a definitive ending.
I do find Homelander's midlife crisis an interesting storyline in the season so far. I especially like the scene where he nearly convinced the Deep to blow A-Train and then went off about how everyone is an insufferable sycophant. It's both amusing and a really intriguing insight into his disturbed psyche.
