"Apollo 13" doesn't hold up to repeat viewings.

I think the SFX for this movie were very realistic for the time and still stand up very well. .

Except for the part when an Aquarius/Odyssey rocket the size of Cuba is shown with the Moon and Earth in the same shot. ;)

Which scene is that, cause I have never noticed it before, and I love seeing that kind of stuff.

And yes I agree with everyone here that Apollo 13 is a great great film, and certainly holds up to repeat viewings.

I gotta give props to the real Jim Lovell when he appeared in a cameo in the film. TPTB offered him a role as an Admiral, but he said to them "I retired as a captain...a captain I will be." So he played the captain of the aircraft carrier sent to pick up the crewmembers at the end. Wore his old Navy uniform too.

It was really sad to hear the voiceover at the end that said Jack Swigert died... :( (it was about ten years after the events depicted in the film, AFAIK)

Also I heard once that Buzz Aldrin had gotten to talking to Ron Howard once and asked him where they got the "stock footage" used for the launch scene (of course there wasn't any - it was all CGI). Ron said they created it for the film, and Buzz said something like "...can we use it?"

It comes after the moon slingshot. I think just before the big correcting burn (which, incidently, has the ship firing its rocket in the wrong directon.)

There's an exterior shot with both the Earth and the ship in it (as I think about it I don't think the Moon was in the same shot. And the size of the ship, comapred to Earth, is out of porporition.
