Pretty sure that thread was started by a bitter Discovery fan getting their own back.
Either way having a problem with Discovery being a Burnham show is pointless because it's about the only thing in the show the production team have been steadfast and certain about. They have never claimed it would be anything else.

- The very premise of this season doesn't make much sense to me. Everyone's acting like the Progenitor technology will give them some magical power -- whatever it is that they're seeking or are afraid of -- without actually knowing what this power is. It's like watching a Trek version of The Wizard of Oz.

That’s true for all they know it might just be a recipe for biscuits!

That part makes no sense. We went from L’ak having an irreversible death warrant on his head that was motivating their search, and he was a disgrace to his people doing freight inspections before running off with Moll, to now he’s someone they’re ready to start an internal rebellion over and follow a human woman into battle for him?

If him being “scion” was that important, why did they need to find the progenitor tech to lift the erigah in the first place? He could have used his support for the primarch’s claim to leadership as leverage.

This has been bothering me a lot as well.
I mean, literally, the past two episodes indicate that, if L'ak had wanted, he could have just taken the Emperor position for himself, done away with the erigah, and gone off with Moll after appointing a successor.
It also really, REALLY doesn't track with how he was treated in those flashbacks. How in the hell did Ruhn get L'ak into that position in the first place? Why was L'ak so scared of being found out when they treat him like a messianic figure?
It makes zero sense. I was excited to learn more about the Breen, but these past two episodes have mostly made it a mess.

Hey, I still don't care what the majority thinks. The majority is vapid and changeable.

When I first watched Discovery it reminded me in structure as Daredevil. I didn't see the issues with the main character focus at the time, and still don't.

And that's good. I'm glad you enjoy it. Really, I am! The majority IS usually vapid and stupid.
When I talk about Star Trek, I don't usually bother to compare it to other shows because, really, it's a unique entity unto itself at this point.

Indeed, yes. As it should be.

Star Trek was set up as variety platform. It was not meant as one thing. Applying "should" to it is setting oneself up for massive disappointment. The Next Generation was not really like The Original Series in tone or styling, even with repeated stories. Deep Space Nine is a known different take within the franchise, and was rejected summarily by the fandom for it.

So, to my mind, Star Trek should be able to have a main character in one show, an ensemble in another, and even an anthology if desired. Why? Because the structure of the franchise is designed around variety in storytelling, not one formulaic style.

I thought this episode was pretty good. The archive idea was very interesting and executed pretty well.

I will say, the Breen aspect of the story is fizzling for me. It's not very interesting and feels very one-dimensional. Discovery has never really succeeded in making compelling villains, in my opinion. At the very least, the Breen and the threat they pose has been fairly well-seeded, if not tepid.

Unlike the previous seasons of the show, it never feels like time is being wasted. We've made progress on this storyline in every single episode. It has started to make me wonder that maybe 10 episodes should have just been the number of episodes per season previously. Nothing feels overstretched.

Saru and Tilly.

But you already know this.

I agree, but then...why the heck did they get written off and / or sidelined?
And let's face it, Tilly's usage since coming back this season has been drastically reduced from what it used to be.
