In a proper "classic Trek" setup, the dates are completely meaningless, anyway. I'd rather they just stick to the era that actually has some style, charm, and recognizability.

And we currently have that.

I feel like it's unfortunate that the 'Get out of continuity free card', in the form of the Temporal Cold War hasn't really been used to its full potential in the prequel shows. You had Sera in Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow casually drop it in, but thats all really. I'm surprised fans never latched on to it in a bigger way.

All the arguments over ship designs, character personalities and alien encounters wouldn't really be necessary.
It's one of the things that the Kelvin prequels got right, as you'll never need to worry about contradicting the events of Wrath of Khan or wondering if The Menagerie is still canon etc.

The Temporal Cold War is destructive while the Kelvin Timeline is constructive, so my vote is for more Kelvin Timelines. But only if the writers absolutely positively want to change things about a universe they presumably have some fondness for instead of just embracing what they have and building on it.

(I'm giving Trouble with Tribbles being overwritten by Trials and Tribble-ations a pass because they thoughtfully included the DS9 episode with my TOS discs as a timeline patch ).

Pike's too touchy-feely for some people (too sensitive). Also, they don't approve of Chapel swinging both ways.

Then there are the people moaning about Robert April being the "wrong" skin color (up until SNW, he was a character in a cartoon from the 1970's ).

Yeah I don't get the Robert April thing, whatever skin color I am just glad we got a canonized live action version of him.
What grinds my gears: in TNG-Relics, Scotty was absolutely flabbergasted that the ENT-D quarters were that luxurious compared to one from his time.
But in SNW 'cadet' Uhura's quarters are a mansion compared to Picard's quarters on the ENT-D or ENT-E

Moving the Eugenics Wars further in the future using the TCW/TW was a brilliant move!

Luxurious might mean accommodations over size.

They don't want an easy out. Too afraid of the fan base to try and suggest things might be different but then they do, then they don't.

I'm still hoping a Sarin, Silik or Daniels-like character will appear in a later season to casually mention that things are happening differently, or that technology is more advanced than it should be etc. Just so they can beef up Sera's infodump in Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow.

Yes they did but I am guessing not as much as prior Trek.
There was a Twitter post about a month ago, someone took Netflix viewing info and put it in a chart and legacy Trek (TOS-ENT) all had substantially more viewers than any new Trek.

Plenty of people saw the episode.

Most of them don't give a shit about the timey wimey stuff.

Hope I don't offend you personally but that just solidifies how the new shows don't have a dedicated fanbase like prior shows did, and nobody is to blame but the Discovery writers.
A Reddit thread just yesterday proved beyond any doubt how there was significantly less engagement for S5 of DSC than even prior to premiere of DSC.
Its sad, it sucks, but that's the reality we are in.

Yes. "Content" -- as we've come to call it now -- is designed to be ephemeral and easily digestible. And that's totally fine. People have access to so much more stuff now to choose from and only so much time to consume it.

I've seen certain episodes of TNG 20+ times, not so much because of their quality, but because it was the only thing to watch before bed growing up that I had any interest in.

Netflix no longer is but the data I think is from a couple of years back, Netflix was forced to divulge the viewing numbers after the new SAG-Aftra deal was made last year.

You're new here, so I'll just say that this BBS is full of hypocritical projecting. In short, it's only gatekeeping if the other side does it. SNW should be immune from any criticism whatsoever, but anything pre-2005 or PICARD season 3 can be subjected to 1000X the scrutiny, because reasons. Why do you care so much, bro? It's just a TV show. Trying to make things make sense in universe is just being a toxic fan and you're an old man yelling at clouds. Etc, etc, etc. Budget your time accordingly. I'm a colossal TOS fan. In fact, it's my all-time-favorite Trek series. I also love SNW. And I see no glaring, immutable contradictions between the two.
