Good episode this week. Not quite as good as last episode though.

I was not expecting to find out that La’ak was a Breen. I don’t get the two faces thing. It’s weird. At least we know what they look like finally. I’m guessing that La’ak’s uncle will return as the main antagonist later on.

The season is half over. Just 5 more left.

They teased us with the appearance of THAT ship 3 weeks ago, and it turns out to be pretty meaningless, just an empty wreck with nothing interesting inside. Could've been any other ship. And much of the episode is people staring at each other, saying predictable and uninspired things to each other. I guess my hopes and expectations were too high, it was just lame.

I see it as fair trade. The mirror universe got our defiant, and we got their enterprise. Only took a thousand years
But they got to peak at newer StarShip Tech from the future.
We got to see a relic that is a mirror of one of our past ships.

As usual, I find myself siding with the guy saying that maybe the captain shouldn't be flying this particular mission herself.
I concur, but Michael Burnham is our "Action Heroine". She really belongs more in a Spy Division like the StarFleet equivalent of the IMF (Impossible Missions Forces).

An okay episode. Having it be the ISS Discoprise added literally nothing to the story. They could have used any connie and still used the SNW interiors.
The Breen stuff was okay but it wasn’t particularly interesting.

It was a missed opportunity. As much as some in fandom hate Burnham connection to a certain Lt. This was a near perfect moment (when we see her looking as the ship departs) for her to reflect on missing her brother. While showing the crew constantly missing their past, would get tiresome. It still is something that should be felt. And that would be a great place to squeeze it in.

SNW hada. nice moment when Spock was mind melding La'an and his thoughts over Michael were spilling over to La'an. That was a nice few seconds on SNW to convey that loss. Simple little moments like that are effective, and economical.
And let's face it seeing the Enterprise should make her think of 2 things. Georgiou and Spock. Georgiou because its the ISS, and Spock because its the Enterprise.

Overall enjoyable, a few things bugged me. Like many the two faces thing confused me.

She kinda did on the bridge when looking at Spock's station.

after last weeks mostly good episode... what a disappointment.

Seriously why bother, if the main story would have been pretty much the same, if it was just a regular shipwreck...
no need for extra dimensional space or ISS stuff.
Lots of wasted story, mirror character and cameo potential.

Nice to give the "antagonists" some depth, even if it's unfortunately mostly love conquers everything...

Liked the Breens Uniforms and what ship designs we could catch a glimpse of.
Preferred the glowy somewhat transparent/cybery look, could have been better, but also much worse.
They look milktoasty otherwise tough when they are just "mat green"

To me, Raynor is the voice of reason and personification of Star Trek fans that don't like Disovery's (annoying)
  • constant over the top moralizing
  • "we interrupt this urgent/threatening situation for talking about feelings, crying, whispering, galactic peace and whatever"
  • Burnham's character must be front and center at all times

I voted an 8

I liked the Breen flashbacks with L'ak and Moll.

The Breen modification to the semi transparant glowy green skin reminds me of John Scalzi's Old Man War series where the human Colonial Defense Force recruits new body skin color is modified to green to allow them to get additional energy using photosynthesis from available sunlight.

I also liked the classic TOS bridge sounds on the ISS Enterprise.

You don't use the Enterprise if you intend for it to be meaningless. This season has been filled with stuff that appears meaningless at the outset but ends up being significant to the plot. The Breen are mentioned in passing and it turns out that one of the main villains is one and that the Breen themselves are going to be overarching threat of the season. The Constitution class get mentioned in passing and one shows up in useable condition. I also don't think it's a meaningless coincidence that there is a clear reference to Mirror Saru or that the ISS Enterprise was ferrying refugees.

How it plays out remains to be seen, but I'd bet real money that the ISS Enterprise is getting a refit to 32nd Century specs and is going to be pivotal to the end of the season.

I gave this one a 6. Where is the excitement of the first two episodes?

I didn't mind getting some extra background info on the two 'baddies', but the episode as a whole just didn't interest me that much. I want to know more about what they're actually chasing...

And oh yes, those annoying 'let's stop in the middle of a life threatening thing and talk about our feelings' moments are still there. Annoying.

I found the episode to be boring. Wasted opportunity with the Terran Enterprise and the bad guys romance was just kind of standard uninteresting stuff. I liked the Breen new outfits and I don't mind the seeing what they look without their helmets, but the Breen became less interesting soon as they start talking in English as opposed to the alien sounds we are use to.
