“E2” Damn, this was a good episode

I don’t think I’ve watched “E2” since its original airing, but my goodness it’s a well-done, many-layered hour. If they’d wanted to, this could have planted the seeds for a lot of followup too, assuming two things: (1) Lorian’s Enterprise
survives at the end, but is merely separated from our guys
; and (2) the Kovaalans are indeed
the “body-fluid vampires” from “Fight or Flight”
.

I like it a lot but it feels out of place to the rest of the arc to me and echoes "Children of Time" to much. I like the design of Lorian's Enterprise a lot and Lorian himself was well played and I like them weaponising beaming in combat.

^^ Before that, he played astronaut Pete Conrad in Apollo 13. So many spacefarers. :) Generals too - Terminator 3, World War Z, and JAG General Cresswell for the last season of JAG. Starred in TV's Mann & Machine (didn't last long, but I loved it) and film Cherry 2000, one of the Earp brothers in Costner's Wyatt Earp, tons of TV appearances. Always a pleasure to see his performances.

In retrospect, the Kovaalans would have made great long-term villains, if you assume that the similar-looking ships in “Fight or Flight”, “Silent Enemy” and “E2” were all them.

Yes, Enterprise episode "E2" is truly one of those episodes that leaves a lasting impression. It is beautifully executed and has many layers of meaning that make it interesting to analyze and discuss. Perhaps the creators of the series intentionally introduced some uncertainty in order to sow seeds for future events and add intrigue to the plot. The mention of the Enterprise Loriana and the Kovaalans really adds to the mystery and raises a lot of questions for viewers.

It's a good episode, but I've also thought Children of Time did it a bit better. It's still one of the best Enterprise episodes of that season tho.

“Children of Time” is great, but of course
everything’s wiped out at the end
other than a single main consequence. Of course, that may be true for “E2” as well, but I’d like to headcanon that
they actually survived and were still out there
.
