Pitch a Film for Paramount+

We've all heard how they want to do a new streaming film every couple of years, with Section 31 being the first.

What are some practical ideas for future streaming films? By practical, I mean that the film should have a budget in-line with what you would expect for a streaming film. We're not going to get another Kelvin film on Paramount+.

I think a fairly reasonable idea would be for a Strange New Worlds movie, possibly tying into the 60th Anniversary. The film could depict Captain Pike's last great mission onboard the Enterprise, before finally handing command over to Captain Kirk. This could act as a series finale for Strange New Worlds, while also bringing the entire franchise full-circle. It also leaves a door open for possibly more adventures with Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise. We also have the benefit of sets already being built and a well seasoned cast of actors established in their roles.

Anyone else care to contribute their ideas? I have others, but I'll leave it with one for now, just to get the ball rolling.

Star Trek: Evolution

Trilogy about a race that is trying to kick humanity up the evolutionary ladder and not everyone wants to go. Whole new cast of characters.

If they aren't already prepping for this I'd be very surprised. I don't think they would have cast Kirk on SNW if they weren't planning this.

In the absence of Legacy as a series, I could see them doing one off adventures featuring former cast members.

With the 60th coming up, the chance to show Kirk take command of The Enterprise, is almost too good to pass up.

It is the 43rd Century. An aspiring archeologist learns about a legend about the body of James T. Kirk and why the legendary Daystrom Institute had it. A group of folks finds a ship and travels across the galaxy, finding clues and the final resting place of Kirk.

Would love to see what we didn't get to see by Enterprise's end, ie the Founding of the Federation. The setup was all there, the Tellarites, Vulcans, Andorians, etc willing to form an alliance, which to me feels like it could be a good topic for a movie.

A trilogy of the Romulan War, each film bookended by a single Vulcan and Romulan diplomat at a secret location showing that the whole earth Romulan War was just a proxy war between Vulcan and Romulus that ends up being Romulus's Vietnam/Afghanistan. The Romulans attacked humanity trying to stop the spread of Vulcan influence thoughout the galaxy and to destroy a potential Vulcan ally before they became powerful enough to be a threat.

First movie shows humanity underestimating the Romulans superior tech, tactics, and strategy, with typical human hubris, and ends with a major defeat and Earth on the retreat.

Second movie is a contained story, following one earth vessel as it journeys to meet secret Vulcan suppliers who have promised the shield technology humans need to stand up to the Romulan Star Empire. Very balance of terror, Wrath of Khan, Das Boot - ish. Ends with the ship delivering the technology to the fleet, signalling humanity now has evened the playing field.

The third film has the turn of the war thanks to the Vulcan tech & Andorian/Tellerite assistance, defeating the Romulans, humanity having to decide if they press the war forward or agree to terms, and the founding of the Federation.

Project Phoenix — Section 31 successfully reanimates James T. Kirk… which they come to regret. Once Kirk realizes what war-crime depths Section 31 has fallen to, he leads an action effort to take them down.

I don’t have any good ideas for a Paramount+ Trek movie right now (although anything involving the folks from Strange New Worlds and/or Lower Decks would be all kinds or brilliant).

But how about a dramatization of the story of how the original Star Trek was made? Think Mad Men style period drama. Could be pretty cool.

Bonus points if they manage to get Anson Mount as Jeffrey Hunter, Jess Bush as Majel Barrett, Ethan Peck as Leonard Nimoy and Paul Wesley as William Shatner.

This would be good, though I wonder if Paramount would want to cross those streams?

The only thing I'd worry about with a The Making of Star Trek film would be the question.... would it be honest?

Would they show everything? Warts and all?

Would they show Roddenberry's womanizing? The alcohol and drug use? The sleazy buisness practices?

Would they show Shatner and Nimoy fighting for attention?

Would Paramount be willing to take the shine off The Great Bird of the Galaxy?

An Assignment: Earth film based off of PIC S2 seems like it would make sense.

Rios, Agent Wells, Guinan, and Kore Soong going against Adam Soong and Romulan time travellers over Project Khan in the early 2030s. Allows for La’an and Kirk from SNW to get involved as well after the events of “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow” along with several Berman-verse characters from the 21st century. And I can’t imagine it would require much special effects either, meaning it would be something Paramount could afford.

The Center Seat series, while maybe not going that far, definitely addresses some of the issues behind the scenes.

This does not require 3 movies. The first part is essentially just backstory and can be dealt with in 5 minutes at the start, the second part is the actually interesting story and the bulk of the movie while the third part can just be teased at the end with humans, Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites working together teasing the creation of the federation, there's no need to see humanity actually win and the founding of the federation, the founding if the federation is especially boring and unnecessary.
