"Star Trek: Picard" Scores at Saturn Awards!

I don't understand why people keep complaining about Picard being nostalgia and fan service as if it's a bad thing. You think this is nostalgia and fan service but Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks aren't? Besides, I've been a fan for a long time, and I like to be serviced occasionally.

It's all in how it's used.

SNW doesn't always do well. LD makes me groan sometimes. Picard is just sigh inducing, but I find Season 3 lacking more due to characters snd story than nostalgia. Except the Enterprise D. That makes me roll my eyes.

I'm a fan and find servicing quite hollow most times.

Quite correct. I like Picard Season 1 just as much as Picard Season 3. I'm still a fan of Discovery. I just finished rewatching the episode "Terra Firma, Part II" in fact. And, if Legacy were greenlit and Terry Matalas didn't stay the entire show, I'd still watch it after he left.

I like that Terry gave us Picard Season 3, I like that he gave us Season 2 to a lesser extent, I like 12 Monkeys, and, yes, I do appreciate having someone in charge who's only four years older than I am and grew up with the same stuff. But that's not saying he's a saint. That's saying I liked his work, and he's more easily relatable because we're close in age.

I'm not the OP in this thread, but I think it was created with the intention of being a fun thing. "Picard won the Saturns!" Those of us who supported the show would say congratulations, those who aren't fans would at least show some sportsmanship, then we'd all move on.

Raining on a parade is NOT cool. Which is what happened. How would you like it the situation were reversed, SNW swept the Saturns, then I came in and rained on that Parade? That would make me look like an asshole. Which is why I wouldn't do it.

That's not TrekBBS. So things are being taken out on us unfairly.

I think it's rude. I think it's disrespectful. And I'm tired of having to defend what I like and why from the same people at every turn when i did nothing wrong, except dare to like something they don't.

The whole Cult of Matalas / Lord Terry thing just seems to me to be a campaign by a few Assholes-on-the-Internet to hyperbolically discredit fans of PS3 (and 12 MONEKYS for that matter...) by framing their perfectly legitimate stance as instead being deranged. Plus the repeated usage of the whole fanwank label, which is akin to calling fans of PS3 wankers... a pretty strong insult! PS3 reportedly even impressed MCU head Kevin Feige and 20th Century president Steve Asbell. There are receipts to show that people that liked PS3 didn't just overdose on memberberry nostalgia.

I dislike most of NuTrek. But it's not like I've been over in the Disco forum constantly dancing on that show's grave since the cancelation announcement. I've listed in broad terms why I dislike SNW when it's come up in discussions about series comparisons and continuity. But I'm not in the SNW forum line iteming each episode's "canon violations'', tonal inconsistences, and why they violate the TOS and TNG show bible guidelines of Roddenberry himself for what a Star Trek episode should and shouldn't be.
