Alien, Predator, AvP (news)

Does Hawley not understand that the technology in Alien looked like that because it was made in the 1970s not because it was some deliberate design choice?

I'm pretty sure that even in 1979 Scott could have shown something that looked more futuristic but as @Set Harth says it was a conscious design choice, to some degree at least. There's something very robust and functional about Nostromo's tech, it looks like something that could take a lot of wear and tear, something you could repair even if you're light years away from a space dock. Also I suspect Weyland -Yutani would have opted for the cheapest option they could!

It's one of the ridiculous things about the Star Wars TV series, looking at them poking at cheap plastic buttons because that's how it looked back then.

Man, I'd rather have them with 70's style buttons than somehow executing rapid steering manuevers via 2020's style 2d touchscreen SNW style. There's a reason why, even with aaaallllllllll the new tech in modern ships, planes, jets, they still use physical interfaces.

Rather a mix. Have a corporate ship more advanced and the corporate military ships more functional
Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Setting aside the silly notion that Hawley might not grasp the concept of movies being made decades ago and available technology, what difference does it actually make? What's wrong with embracing the production design of an older property?

I had just assumed the Nosromo looked the way it did compared to the Prometheus, because it was supposed to be a cheaper industrial ship, while the Prometheus was a high end state of the art ship with a lot more money behind it.
The worst was Ent-D buzzing around like it was Defiant in Picard.
But wouldn't all ships be able to move the same in space since there's no gravity or atmosphere or anything to affect them?

Objects in space still have mass and inertia.

I don't pretend to know how a starship would perform vs a small fighter in reality, but I think we're really talking about what feels right. ;)

Alien: Romulus upcoming movie is it real? It should release in August, but there haven't been a single trailer for it. And the whole cast is just 6 people
The cast of Alien was seven people. (Not counting the guy in the alien suit and the voice of Mother)
