Season 2 Blu-rays available for pre-order

Paramount's home media department must pull footage from VHS copies or something when getting archive footage, because when they use DS9/VOY footage in the special features on the home media release for the new shows, it does not look like DVD or Streaming quality.

It looks like VHS or a broadcaster copy or something.

That's because all the episode Brosdcast Masters for TNG, DS9 and VOY were actually done on broadcast Betacam video tape. It was done that way in an effort to save production costs because it was cheaper and easier than editing directly with film.

That's why remastering TNG to HD quality was such an expensive endeavor, and why they couldn't just upscale the episode Masters.

And I wouldn't expect the HD remastering for either DS9 or VOY because supposedly Paramount lost money on the TNG HD remaster because in the end it didn't sell enough units to cover the cost of the remastering.

Yes, but as I said the quality in this archive footage is worse than what you see on the DVD/Streaming quality.

Like there's clearly video tape artifacts in the footage, which doesn't exist on DVD/Straming. It's just curious why they would use such lower quality footage for the special features.
