"Warfare" is probably the worst possible word to use.
Substitute "Rescue" for "Warfare"?

Special Ground Defense Force Support Operations.
Or Tactical.
Marines developed for special environmental zones to be deployed from ships. That their role has expanded doesn't change the nature of their special operational duties.
Marine units are known as "expeditionary units", so maybe the top-level "military" unit is the Starfleet Expeditionary Division or maybe the Defense Division (the name given to Andorian Imperial Guards transferred to Starfleet service in the "First Splinter" timeline (aka TrekLit)?)
Vanguard?
Vanguard Operations Forces?
Vanguard Operations Military Intelligence Taskforce?
Tactical Armed Response Group - TARGs
Should I tell you that the USMC has Expeditionary Forces?Keep the idea coming, but I think I actually really like "Starfleet Expeditionary... something or other... Force/Service/Whatever" now.
Expeditionary was hiding under my nose the entire time. It works perfectly. It 100% has a military connotation, but it can absolutely refer to other things. It sticks with the whole Starfleet exploration thing... "Guys, it's totally not a Marine Corps, it's an Expeditionary Force. To go on... Expeditions..."

'Twas a joke, my friend, nothing more. Hence the wink emoji. This isn't mean to be totally 100% anti-military. It's quite literally trying to be a more militaristic arm of Starfleet, but also not just a carbon copy of USMC in space.
Not wanting to use "Marine" in the name is more a stylistic/aesthetic choice. Again, the organization HAS Marines. It's mostly made up of Marines.
I just didn't like "Marine Corps" for the name, and wanted to shiffle around some of the nomenclature partly out of just personal taste, partly to try to make it just a bit different from other takes. Like there's no particular reason we can't use "Private" for a rank. I just don't think it sounds Star Trekish.

Cornet was also proposed earlier on, but sub-lieutenant has been used before as well in Earth militaries. Also, could be seen as a nod to Vulcans own organized forces. As for the officer ranks: I see them as having eliminated the rank of Marine Captain (so as not to be confused with the naval rank), moving the two LIeutenant grades up (so you would go straight from 1st Lieutenant to Major), and adding a new rank - "sublieutenant", maybe? - as their equivalent of Ensign.
I've always liked the name 'Starfleet Marines'. Simple, logical, efficient.
I envision them as just another Starfleet division.
(Remember, in "Tomorrow Is Yesterday", Kirk said that Starfleet was "a combined service"...)

Edit: I am fairly sure that in ST V, the guys in the dark blue turtlenecks who accompany Kirk and crew to Nimbus III were intended to be Starfleet Marines. So if you'd seen those dudes in their normal Monster Maroons, the color would be dark blue.
