What games are you playing currently?

How is Violet? I've been wanting a Pokemon game that was more like the old school Pokemon games on DS/Gameboy and WII.
Well that's certainly not what Scarlet and Violet are like. It's okay, though. I mostly like the Pokémon themselves. I wish they'd make them more interactive.

RDR2 is one of my all time favorite games. It starts slow but if you can immerse yourself in the pace of things, you'll love it. There's not much in the way of rpg character development - you play a premade character and you're not going to be slotting skills or changing attributes but you explore a big open world. Story wise it's one of the best of all time. And if you do get it, make sure you spend time in camp listening to the stories and songs. Honestly, a ton of RDR2 players will tell you that they wish they could erase their memories so they could play it again for the first time bc that first time is so incredible.

Cyberpunk 2077 is more RPG in terms of leveling your character and such and it's very good too, especially with Phantom Liberty. As much as I love it, I would put it a notch below Red Dead 2. (RDR2 made me and everyone else bawl their eyes out at various times - story is just next level).

If it helps here's my all time games: 1. Ghost of Tsushima/Red Dead 2. Witcher 3

Cyberpunk's still great but it's below those 3 for me.

Ok, I have bought Red Dead redemption 2 :D

I'm honestly a little jealous that you're gonna get to experience the story for the very first time. If you need/want any tips about things feel free to ask. BTW, you def. want to look for the White Arabian. It's a pain in the rear to find and break but once you do you've got one of the best horses in the game and you can get it very early on. (Def. look for a guide on how to break horses bc the worst can happen where you find a horse you want and it throws you off and runs away -- for most horses that doesn't matter but for the white Arabian it will drive you crazy. I had to watch a vid and it helped a ton). There's also a red Arabian that's pretty easy to get early and a few others.

Also, hunting and getting your bag upgraded really does help. And doing chores at camp is a really quick way to get honor but ALSO dead eye. And a quick way to build your stamina is to find a very shallow stream (I use a spot on the outskirts of Strawberry) and swim in it. You'll build stamina quickly and since it's shallow you won't risk drowning. :)

ETA: One more thing ALWAYS carry some horse reviver on you. It will save you a lot of pain and trouble.

I wouldn't worry about Elder Scrolls lore.... Per Todd Howard and per the old loremaster Michael Kirkbride who came up with most of it back in the Morrowind days "everything is canon." Which is to say that Elder Scrolls lore often contradicts itself and offers multiple readings and explanations for the same thing. For example, ESO is canon but it takes a sledgehammer to prior lore and even re-imagines how slavery happened in Morrowind (narrowing it down to the Telvanni rather than all dark elves). That basically means all interpretations are valid when it comes to lore and canon. Everything is canon but also nothing is canon as it can change and individual canon is as important as what's found in games.

Thanks, that settles it. I prefer that option rather than keeping it vanilla-esque where everyone is strangely serious all the time and it will make writing it more enjoyable because it adds personality to the characters.

I only wanted to create a decent sized dungeon full of re-spawning mages with master level resistances and spells to give myself a challenge but the more I've been learning about the CS the more elements I want to add and turn it in to a gigantic dungeon mod. Creating the large size isn't a problem because it's just a case of duplicating an existing cell then stripping out what I don't need. Using a vast amount of vanilla cells that are part of oblivion.esm is something I need to check with Nexus to make it's not breaking any of their publishing rules.

Thanks for the advice, i appreciate it.

But first I have to finish "Sherlock Holmes crimes and punishment", also a fun game

I've been playing a lot of Powerwash Simulator lately. :D I also bought Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora last night, so I'm gonna start playing that soon (probably today).

The closest is Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee. It’s a remake of Yellow on Game Boy.

Have you played Legends Arceus? The Pokemon act more like wild animals and you have to take different approaches with them. It’s more focused on catching them and learning their behavior. I like that you can just catch them and not have to engage them in battle first.

Oh wow - thank you so much for the rec. It's actually to try and get OH playing as gaming helps mentation and memory for people with hepatic encephalopathy, alzheimer's and other conditions. I know the Arceus bit wasn't addressed to me but we were gifted Arceus but I think it's just a little too complicated for him on a lot of days but it looks great for someone like me who loves adventure type games. He's not a gamer but he did enjoy playing old school Pokemon back in the day. If Let's Go Pikachu or Evee are the older formula, I think I might have a much better shot of easing him into a gaming routine to help keep his mind active.

I think the only thing they really add to the game is a mini game element from the later generation games where you can play with either Pikachu or Eevee depending on the version you get. I don’t recall it being a requirement though.

Arceus is great though. It’s more like a traditional RPG, I wish they would incorporate elements from it into the mainline games.

From what little I played with him Arceus looks like a blast. It's just that a lot of times he has dexterity/fine motor control issues and problems processing information if the button presses get to complex. I think if I can get him into Let's Go that he'll be able to graduate to Arceus later but first thing is getting him used to the device with a game that doesn't overwhelm him. Right now, he just came back from a hospital admission (went in last Friday for a few days) and his mentation is pretty good but it's not always like that. If I can get him back into playing an OG type Pokemon, it will help with memory (he struggles with short term memory even on good days) and cognition (studies have shown real gains if you stick to regular play) but getting him into it without overwhelming him is key.

ETA: On the fine motor control/dexterity topic... anyone have suggestions for a Switch controller that's super easy to use for people that don't have as much fine motor control? Better handheld mode/joycons?

I think you'll be in for a great time :) My one suggestion would be to take it slow and not try to do everything too quickly. The game is all about the environment immersion, and I've seen plenty of people get discouraged in the game being slow-paced after being used to games like GTAV. The game requires a different mindset going into it that many people don't seem to be able to appreciate.

I haven't played GTA for over 20 years, so I can't compare it to that. I have played the Witcher 3 and its DLC's for over 120 hours
.

Would he need a larger controller that would allow him to grip it better? Because you can get wider joycons, the Hori Split Pad Pro. It looks like you spilt a regular controller and attached it to the sides of a Switch.

Fallout: New Vegas on the Series S/X.

Good game, filling the void until something better comes along.

Seeing at it's just been a fiver here, decided to get the Legendary edition of Mass Effect.

Over the years, I may have replayed the originals a lot, but why not :)

Started with Red Dead redemption 2. I have only played about two hours, so far fun game, only nitpick is that you can't save often so you are forced to finish the mission.

You can't save mid-mission in a GTA game either though. You can save by sleeping at your camp when not doing a mission. Generally missions will have checkpoints though, and if you have to resume at a later time, it will usually resume at the closest checkpoint.

I haven't played GTA for over 20 years so I didn't know it. I am in my first camp and can't go to bed in my room.

Yeah, saves can kinda be a pain at times. I hate it when games don't let me pause when I want (even during a cut scene) or save when I want. That said, once you're into the first town you can do a lot more free roaming and only a few talks trigger missions. You can kinda put them off a bit but I do recommend doing Hosea's missions first. It's the only way to get a fence unlocked and upgrade camp and you def. want to upgrade camp to unlock crafting and fast travel.
