Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

I ran into an old teacher who I met after leaving high school. We did a movie night. This was a few years after I had left she was 35 I was 30

We are supposed to be at the start of Summer but out of the blue we had a big lightning storm lots of thunder and noise and it was just crazy.

Power surge blew my NTD device

I had to Google this... apparently that terminology is unique to Australia? (Although it looks like the phrase "NTD device" gives us another instance of RAS syndrome! ;) )

Sorry that your device got ruined. Hopefully it is not too expensive to replace?

I don't know how the weather generally goes in Australia, but around here thunderstorms are very much on point for summer! :)

Replacement NTD is usually free but internet in Australia has been a bit of a clusterfuck on the part of government

I finally made it home after 3 and a half weeks in Reno with the Parents. I'm really looking forward to a quiet Christmas.

I also was able to take my car into the shop after someone backed into me at an intersection and the repair work is over $5500. Thankfully Insurance is paying that. I got a rental, a Kia K5, and it's a nice car. It's Car Play actually works, something I can't say for mine. My only regret on buying mine was finding out the Car Play would be unusable 2 years after I bought the car. :(
A year ago I bought a Kia Telluride with the greater tow capacity. It wasn't until I got home that I realized it didn't have a trailer hitch. Further investigation revealed they had a problem with the wiring harness so later SUV's didn't have them installed!

A couple of weeks ago I received word the tow kits were now available. Haven't had the chance yet to get the details and find out how much more this was going to cost me!

The junk email scams I get are blatantly obvious. The subject line seems legit, but once you open it, the entire body is very amateur with large fonts and weird colors, completely inappropriate for a professional business, plus the email address is bonkers. Yet enough people must fall for them otherwise they'd stop sending them. Also, when my mom receives blatantly obvious text scams, she has to ask her kids of they're real or fake.

Also the links in those mails should be a giant red flag too with how weird they tend to be.

Over here we're getting tons and tons of the failed parcel delivery type text messages on phones which if you are silly enough to click on open links to phising sties and other bad things. This seems to be a huge one here in Australia.

In the meantime, I have scammers getting employee names and titles off of LinkedIn, creating Gmail or whatever accounts using the names, and then emailing me with new voids to update their banking info too

Some scammers work on mass mailings with little effort, some work with more precision.

I just found a second staple in a second batch of different Christmas baking made on a different day by my mom.

I have informed her all the money in my will goes to my nephew's so stop trying to fucking murder me.

I keep getting emails telling me my Amazon account is being locked, but there is no Amazon account associated with my email. My mom and I share an account and it's set to her email. And when I check the sender it's like amzn or something like that, not actually amazon.

I got a couple of texts saying they were from the president of the company I work for (small company with about 8 employees). While they were requesting I pickup a couple of Apple gift cards, their instance of things while I was at a client's site didn't ring right. But they had the president's name and mine, suggesting they did some homework.

It's always fun when the scammers totally fuck up. A few years ago a woman from some company called my mom and told her that she had just talked to my dad the day before, which was really shocking, since had been dead for over a year when she called.

So yeah tomorrow is mum's funeral and strangely now I don't feel anywhere near as upset or sad as I did the week of her death and I'm putting that down to the fact it is just around the corner and feels more real if that makes sense. Now that I know it really is happening I feel calmer.
