College Football 2023 - RIP Pac-12

Well I guess the committee will do just about anything to get Alabama into the playoffs.

I feel bad for FSU. Going into the conference championship with your 3rd string QB and still winning speaks to a really good team.

Fuck Bama and the SEC favoritism. I hope Michigan runs them out of the stadium and FSU blows out whoever their bowl opponent is after doing everything they were asked to do.

TBH, I think it's Texas they didn't want to leave out. Between the one loss teams, BAMA beat UGA. Texas won the h2h at the beginning of the year when BAMA was bad but that was 90 percent of their resume. Neither should be in over FSU though (and my personal wish would be Texas in and BAMA out).

One other thing on FSU.... how much of this is related to their pre-season saber rattling about leaving the ACC? The committee plays politics. FSU has turned down an SEC invite before and did so because Bowden didn't want to play a tougher schedule. Even so, a lot of people thought all these decades later they were posturing to leave the ACC back in the summer. Texas accepted the invite while FSU didn't. FSU should be in the SEC while Texas, TAMU, and Miz should not. Could well be FSU alienated a lot of committee members that would've supported them because they flirted with destroying the ACC but didn't actually leave and SEC affiliated committee members are going to vote for SEC members and the one that accepted the invite.

I think I was the only one that saw Alabama and/or UGA as a guaranteed spot based on prior behavior by the comittee. I just didn't think they'd ditch FSU. This is no different though than the committee putting BAMA ahead of last year despite the fact that we beat them and LSU. Nick Saban still owns college football and it's corrupt to its core.

Michigan shouldn't have gotten an invite. They can burn in hell for another 30 years for what they did to us last year. Their cheating cost us a playoff spot. Also how's their schedule better than FSU's?

tOSU and Michigan are just as protected as BAMA and Texas and a few others when it comes to guarantees.

Can't spell Citrus without UT.

I have no idea how we got the Citrus and IOWA of all teams. I suspect it's a cosmic joke because I made fun of Iowa's offense a few posts ago.

FSU deserved to go, but would have been destroyed.

Not as bad as TCU was destroyed but yes they lose to Michigan without their QB. Even so, they earned the right to play the game.

Truth is the 4 team format was always designed to cover the country by television region to maximize viewing and ad dollars. Your maximum viewership is in the South but your maximum dollars are outside making the West and B1G country vital. The committee has always made its picks based on this. FSU would've been redundant and ESPN owns the tv and media rights to Texas and BAMA making them more valuable properties for ESPN.

That is pretty bad. It reminds me of one just before targeting rules passed. Vols were playing Cinci and two Cinci players went head to head on either side of our WRs head. Our WRs helmet shot straight up into the air several feet and both of Cinci's defenders knocked themselves out cold in the endzone. Our WR was fine (the helmet shooting up probably saved him) but the defenders concussed themselves.

A lot of defenders don't understand that the rule is there to protect them just as much as the one they're hitting.

Heck, I’m fine to going back to them just naming a national champion after bowl season.
It’s about as arbitrary and popularity based now. I really just want consistency from whatever system we use. The committee has broken or bent every rule they’ve ever set up to get their top picks in, going back to OSU getting in and winning a championship they shouldn’t have been allowed to play for and only getting worse from there. Selection has become completely political. There will always be a B1G team or ND and there will always be an SEC team. That is about all that’s been consistent.

Until they implement a true bracket system of conference champions, there will always be a subjective element.

Some years the top teams are more clear than others, but the system has subjectivity built in.

I'm guessing this would be more likely to happen in college than the NFL, but has a team ever lost because an overeager player scored instead of running out the clock and gave the other team enough time to come back?

Jordan Travis should have won the Heisman Trophy. He single handedly knocked his team out of the college football playoff.
