I'm a little disappointed Penix Jr didn't get the Heisman. Hopefully, he'll show them they chose wrong in January.

So, I wonder how long it will be before the fans and the networks start suing over these ridiculous bowl games with players transferring and/or opting out?

That Missouri/Ohio State game is a good example. Was that really the game everyone wanted? All the people who bought packages and travelled to see that?

Yes I know and understand why players opt out, but the resulting quality (or lack thereof) is going to start having an effect on the bottom line at some point, no?

Not sure what I just watched. The Arizona Bowl had a field goal contest, but it wasn't random fans. They were two people I think I was supposed to know? But I had no idea who they were. And it wasn't even at halftime. They stopped the game early in the fourth quarter for this promotional bit. Not sure if this was a CW thing or a Barstool Sports thing, but it was bad.

Also, the CW broadcasters are not good at all.

I think NIL and expanded playoffs will end up killing most bowl games.

Kirby Smart, after a 63-3 blowout win against FSU in the Orange Bowl:

"People need to see what happened tonight, and they need to fix this," Smart said, lamenting the flood of opt-outs and portal entries on teams playing in non-playoff bowl games. "It needs to be fixed. It's very unfortunate that they have a good football team and a good football program and they're in the position they're in." The Seminoles played without their top two quarterbacks, top two running backs, top two receivers, starting tight end, three starting defensive linemen, two of three starting linebackers and three starting defensive backs. They were down 29 scholarship players in all.

Kirby seems a class act. Had they been healthy, (and players more loyal) it would have been a closer game.

The Tennessee QB opted out of today's bowl game to keep himself healthy for the draft even though he might not even get drafted. He gave up on the last game of his collegiate career for a maybe.

Considering Tennessee won 35-0, I think he made the right decision.

But how much could it have helped a potential draft placement if he'd been the one leading the 35-0 victory? Quite frankly Joe Milton did not have a great season and could have used that to impress scouts a little.

Meanwhile: DOWN GOES BAMA!!!! Best news of the bowl season. :D:D:D

ETA: And now Washington beats Texas! I think these have been the best semifinal games in all the College Football Playoffs? Two damned good games, really.

The Huskies tried to lose that game. So many boneheaded mistakes.

That's what Michigan was doing too. The fact they managed a win against Alabama of all people after some really idiotic mistakes is... well, it's a good thing Bama was fucking up too.

That was Joe Milton and he did what was best for the program. Him opting out was absolutely the best case scenario. He's got a Senior Bowl invite and Nico Iamleava (you're going to be hearing that name a lot the next few seasons) is going to be our starter next season. He'll be a RS Frosh and until the bowl game had zero experience. Coach Heupel was never going to force Joe out but the best outcome for us was to start next season in the bowl game.

Milton was on the sideline to cheer Nico on (the way Hendon Hooker was there for him last year). As for Milton.... He can throw to the space station with the arm he's got. He'll wind up getting scouts hot and heavy for him. He's a better Anthony Richardson but they're comparable as prospects.

Nico, OTOH, is the highest rated QB we've had since Peyton. He and Arch were 1 and 2 overall as prospects and who was who depends on which service you use. Nico is a better fit for us regardless and imo the better prospect. He also played better competition. Arch played at a program where he was bigger than some of the OL and DL.

I want Washington to win just to bring the Trophy to the defunct Pac-12. Have a feeling Michigan will blow them out though.

I think everyone outside the state of Michigan is cheering for Washington. Besides, Michigan would have to vacate in a few years, anyway. But in truth, I think Washington can win. Penix is playing elite ball right now and that can cut any defense down to size. (Hell just look what our true freshman -Nico- starting his first game did to a top defense and that was an elite QB who is still very inexperienced and raw. Penix has more experience than most college QBs will ever get because of the covid year and redshirts.

And elite QB play like Penix's changes everything - everything - and his is combined with experience.

Another, case in point was my team (Tennessee) last year (2022) - that was a team that entered the season with the NCAA record for portal transfers. They were a group of nobodies with roster holes you could drive a truck through coming off a mediocre season the year prior and the year before that the worst season in school history the year before. But elite QB play from Hendon Hooker changed everything. Suddenly, Jalin Hyatt (WR only Vol fans had heard of) reached his potential and won the Biletnikoff.

As an ironic aside, Penix was supposed to be our QB and was commited but Pruitt (the guy responsible for the aforementioned worst season in school history as well as the sanctions we are now under) told him to look around.
