For All Mankind Trailer - Apple TV- SPOILER

Joking aside, I looked up the definition online and thematically I see no difference with modern heavily serialized shows. The only difference seems to be just the schedule. But if I decided to watch "For All Mankind" in the evening once a week, it would be indistinguishable from a "Primetime soap"

The Soap is very strong in FAM.

The new character Miles is the latest in a long line of people in this show that I spend all their scenes thinking about what other actor they look like.
So many familiar faces who end up not being who I thought they were.

Ep IV was pretty solid. Just a couple of issues and thoughts:

1. I don't see Miles just being able to check out a suit and go galloping off on his own across the Martian landscape. It's a deadly, dangerous environment even to those who know what they are doing. At the very, very least, you would think there would be some 'buddy system' rules in place to prevent exactly what we saw. Especially for a first-timer.

2. I see things coming to an ugly head pretty soon between Dani and Ed, both over Ed's deception about his own medical condition and past stuff over Danny Stevens. The rift is already there- it's only going to widen now. Haven't heard 'Hi Bob' from either one since the first episode. Just sayin'.

3. Margo is in a unique position- she ought to have a 'come to Jesus' with her Russian boss, and explain that people who are afraid for their lives will always try to cover and deflect, and lie if they feel they need to to protect themselves. Space exploration is an environment where truth and integrity are paramount, or lives will be lost and zillions of dollars / rubles worth of equipment damaged or destroyed. Of course, Margo herself is probably 'afraid of her own shadow' after what she's been through to this point. Side note: the actress playing the Russian boss of Star City is coming across as a suitably scary individual. Gawd, the Soviet system was just soul-crushing.

4. The engineering analysis was pretty good. The units-conversion thing has bitten a lot of engineers in real life, including one lost Mars probe when a similar mistake was made at JPL years ago. I really liked the attention to detail shown here in this bit of storytelling.

5. We finally got out on the surface of Mars! Woot! Now all these people who need to live and work there need to stop throwing hands at each other when wearing exosuits. A harmless shove can potentially turn into murder pretty easily, as we saw this episode.

Keep it coming!

Has anyone ever had issues with Apple TV where the foreign language subtitles don't appear? That happened with this latest episode of For All Mankind. No subtitles at the very beginning, but when I paused and rewound they came back. I had to do it two different times this episode.

The first time I experienced this was Tetris.

I was wondering how long it would take for Margot to discover the dark side of working for the Soviet space program. Now she's gonna have to have to temper her natural talent for finding problems since those findings will almost always end in the removal and death of someone else. I don't see her new friend lasting long once she discovers Margot got her boss removed.

Ed Baldwin is going to snap here soon. We saw how he got in the first season when is son died, I don't think this is gonna be any better. Dani is showing her own leadership issues, seemed pretty dismissive of the lower deckers when concerns were voiced. Miles is gonna cause someone to get killed due his constantly pushing, he's too reckless and that's going to be a problem. Doubtlessly all these storylines are gonna collide and cause major issue.

I think Margo discovered the dark side of the Soviet program back when they coerced her into giving them the nuclear engine by strangling Sergei half to death in front of her. Again later when the Soviets twisted her arm once NASA rescued the Russian crew on the way to Mars. She's known for a good many years the nature of the system she's gotten caught up in.

Dani is being a little heavy-handed. "As Base commander, I order . . ." is never the best way to motivate people and get things done. Every leader, especially one in her position, governs by the consent of the governed to a certain degree. Authority will only get you so far- just ask the framers of the Magna Carta.

I'm very interested to see how they ring Ed Baldwin out this season. I love his character even with the flaws, or maybe especially with them, and I hope he either goes out heroically or at least partially on his own terms. Either way, we need a little Sinatra when the moment comes.

I love Margo but she continues to prove her naivete. She was foolish to take Irina on her word that Kirill would simply get a new job. Margo should've known better, especially after her own recent traumatic experiences and the considerable amount of time she's already spent in Soviet Russia. And just when Margo finally made a friend, turns out she was a mentee of Kirill's and will hate Margo if and when she discovers Margo's role in his removal. Margo did some great science, but she's tripping over everything else.

Speaking of fools, Miles Dale. What a dipshit. I was sympathetic about his situation and his frustrations, but this time around he did a double whammy of idiocy. First, pushing to expand the black market well beyond its risks (and only caring about his personal gains) and then nearly got his ass killed reaching for a damn rock he shouldn't have gone for. He's damn lucky Sam rescued his ass and yet still didn't appreciate what she did for him.

Really, this was an episode of fools. Svetlana and her reckless fight in a spacesuit (even if that guy was an ass) kicked everything off, but at least she had the good sense to realize she knew she screwed up and had to pay the price. Whereas Ed went Full Ed to the point of tearing up his longtime friendship with Dani...and Dani was damn right about Ed and his very shitty history of backing people with emotions and not facts.

I was bummed out we didn't get any Kelly or Aleida in this episode, but it's just as well. Foolish behavior was the theme of this episode and I wouldn't want them to partake.

Yeah, that bothered me greatly. Even in the realm of menial work, safety comes first and I cannot believe they wouldn't have safety precautions like you outlined. I've loved the meticulous nature of many aspects of this show but this felt like a mistake that existed solely to create drama and that's unfortunate.

4. The engineering analysis was pretty good. The units-conversion thing has bitten a lot of engineers in real life, including one lost Mars probe when a similar mistake was made at JPL years ago. I really liked the attention to detail shown here in this bit of storytelling.
Yuuuup. I immediately thought of that Mars probe when Kirill talked about the mistake unit conversation. Made that whole incident feel believable because we know it can and has happened.

Answering in bold as to the motivation for Ed. Ed knows he needs Svetlana to complete the mission to capture the asteroid, because Ed knows he can't complete the mission due to the problems with his hand shaking.
