I've got a feeling you're just trying to counter my point for the sake of it.Disco having travelled to the 32nd century makes it hard to not write something that is not a prequel if you want to stay in the world of Star Trek as we know it.
Back in '91, I didn't think of Star Trek VI as a "prequel" to TNG. It was just continuing on from the TOS Movies. Similarly, I think PIC was just continuing on from the TNG Movies. To me, a prequel means going back to before the original.
So, yes, Controversial Opinion: For the Kurtzman Series, I subscribe to the idea that the TOS Era is "the past" (DSC S1-S2, SNW), the TNG Era is approximately "the present" (LD, PRO, PIC), and DSC S3+ is "the future". When Discovery jumped ahead, I always call it The Future.
Some people might disagree with that, but not the end of the world.
