Frasier revival

Audiences asked at the time if Maris would be like Vera, oft mentioned but never seen. The show runners said "No no no of course not." But when they started to think they should show Maris they realized that they could never cast anyone who could live up to what they had written.

My favorite Maris joke ever was on the Simpsons. Cecil's first appearance. Lisa leaps on Cecil's back to tackle him and covers his eyes. He says "Maris?!?"
I heard that story too.

I think it's a bit bs, since I just started a rewatch and in the sixth episode with the fake painting, the way they had Maris laying in bed under a pile of coats, at Frasier's during a party, suggesting they never really thought about having her cast....

The show runners may have deluded themselves...

If they did delude themselves they did it early. As I mentioned I recall at the time of the first season airing the creatives, whoever it was, said "Yes, this is all fun but of course we'll show her at some point."

Does anyone remember the commercial spots they did during the last weeks of Cheers' last season with Frasier introducing all the NBC shows and analyzing the character's problems?

IIRC, Cliff’s mother in Cheers was initially another much-discussed but never seen character, though they finally did introduce her in at least one episode.

I thought I remembered a story that Cliff's mom dated Coach. I must be remembering something else as apparently Coach was long gone by the time Esther showed up.

Vageuly. It ended when I was in the 7th grade and I don't think I followed it that religiously.

In episode 6 "Blind Date", Frasier letting his insecurities ruin the date felt straight out of the OG Fraiser series. He says "I still got it". Yep. He is still a screw up with the ladies.

It showed growth that he wasn't going to reuse a Flintstones plot to appease two beautiful women.

OK, are we EVER going to have an episode that does not specifically reference Cheers / OG Frasier?

That was so much funnier than it had any right to be. Freddy's reaction with a look of "What world do you live in?!?" sealed the deal.

My favorite part of the episode was in the bar when Frasier, Alan, and Freddy were being absurd and Olivia was just reacting up a storm.

Another funny one. There's nothing quite like Frasier's love life being absurd, allowing more farce in the Crane man trying to work out which one of them has been set up on the blind date. :D
