Spoilers Loki season 2-- spoilers and discussion

The initial one @JD shared: https://www.businessinsider.com/actress-tara-strong-fired-show-after-posts-israel-hamas-war-2023-10

It's unclear what posts prompted Strong's firing, but X users accused her of making posts, and liking and un-liking posts by others, that were Islamophobic or critical of pro-Palestinian demonstrations happening around the world. Strong appeared to acknowledge liking a post that said Islam is a threat but said she un-liked it when she read it in full.

"I liked it when I saw ISIS=HAMAS, I actually didn't read the entire tweet which is AWFUL & un-liked as SOON as I realized. I love everyone…except terrorists. The internet is SO quick to peg people & make judgments. I'm still here to help everyone, & I mean that," she wrote.

Thanks. I read that one, but could not find any others that were substantive or made any sense. She is correct about the pegging. Interesting and distressing…

But that was just that one post she was talking about, from what I've read it sounds like this was about more than just liking that one post.

Just watched ep3

Good:
- time paradox
- backstory on Kang
- loki using magic
- ms minutes being creepy

Not so good:
- sylvie appearance being inconsistent
- loki powers also being inconsistent

Episode 3 was OK, it's nice that the series actually looks real this time around with sets and people instead of empty CGI backgrounds like those of season 1. The story itself though is plodding. We need Kang's face to stop the thing overloading, lets spend a whole episode on trying to get this guy. It's doesn't really go anywhere. Sylvie seems to just show up to throw a spanner in the works since her character arc is pretty much finished since the end of season 1. What is she going to do? Kill all the Kang variants in the universe? Her motivations are weak.

Yeah, that one hurt to learn, since I've always been such a fan of Strong's work. I gather she's also an anti-vaxxer.

Not sure what the particular comments or likes were; however, the reality is that this is a conflict in which anyone not directly involved needs to be very careful about how they are supporting either side. Taking a side as a bystander is going to be a no win situation for anyone posting on social media. It's a tragic, sad, and horrifying event--and more nuanced and complex than can fit in a social media post.

Shows like this with time travel, always make me want to look up whatever event they’re covering to see if it’s real or how accurate it is.

This episode taught me, via research after, that the Ferris Wheel at the 1893 Chicago worlds fair was the very first Ferris Wheel.

The Chicago World's Fair of 1893 is a fascinating subject, and worth your time in researching! :bolian:

When they mentioned HH Holmes, I thought "Oooooo baby! Timeless Crossover!" It's the world's first serial killer brutalizing people in a trap-house like a Saw-movie, and Loki sidesteps the encounter?

Sad.

Compared to season 1, it does feel significantly less has happened in three episodes than had happened in the first three S1 episodes.

Granted, my perception could be diluted from rose tinted glasses.

I wouldn't say nothing happened

Basically everything that has happened occurred in Episode 1. Episodes 2/3 have been wheel spinning - looking for X to do Y, though Z hasn't happened yet.

It doesn't help that there are no character arcs to speak of either yet. Every character is either static or just veers suddenly based upon the needs of the plot (i.e., Sylvie).

Hmm, I agree there's not a clear story arc yet, but I wouldn't say 3 was just wheel-spinning, given that it introduced Timely and set his arc in motion, as well as answering the question of what Renslayer and Miss Minutes were up to. Stories aren't just about things happening; you have to establish characters and stakes so that things are meaningful once they do happen. (For instance, I don't think Brad and Dox were established well enough in episode 1 for their roles in episode 2 to carry much weight.)

And really, I'd say that episode 1 was the most wheel-spinny of the three, since it was mostly just about solving the immediate problem of Loki's time-jumping. It did introduce Ouroboros and the danger of the Loom, and the mystery of what Loki saw in the future, but it didn't do much else.
