I had a health crisis last night so I completely forgot about Loki until this evening. But it was well worth the wait...
I never knew I needed a Vaudeville version of the Marvel theme music nor a Vaudeville Loki episode but here we are. Where have they been all my life?!
Putting aside the legitimate issues of Jonathan Majors, I really enjoyed seeing this vastly different version of He Who Remains in Victor Timely. During the confidence scheme, I figured the stutter was part of the act to lull a false sense of security (not unlike the bumbling Doctor), but instead it was something better: He utilized his real-life debilitation as means to overcome bullies and part fools with their money. I look forward to seeing more of this particular variant in action now that he's in the TVA. For better or for worse.
But the biggest surprise and thrill of the episode was the conniving and scorned Miss Minutes. I figured she was up to no good with her own agenda early on so I wasn't surprised when she turned Victor against Renslayer out jealousy. She does raise an interesting point about why he didn't create a "real" body for her, although she feels that need to have such a "real" body is also a curious notion. Does having such a physicality and "normalization" make her love for him any more legitimate than it already is? Of course, there's also the disturbing aspect of the creation falling for her creator that she doesn't appear to recognize.
The heavy focus on these three characters means Loki and Mobius didn't have quite as much to do this episode (and even less so for Ouroboros, Hunter B-15, and Casey) but it's always a thrill to watch their rapport, particularly as they explored the World's Fair and Mobius compared and contrasted their natures. And not to be left out, Sylvie pops out of nowhere to continue her own vengeful streak and continuing to break Loki's heart. But that said, I hope she has a larger role this season than just that streak.
