Maybe so, Gebirg, but I need one answer involving me personally: why was Sanders changed into Windows? Who names ANYBODY Windows? I'm a radio operator, at least when I'm awake! Now somebody or some THING's mixed me into a Windowsanders! Somebody even yelled ''Tommy'' and ''Waites'' at me, and I don't get the hell why! Also, when I say ''Blair! Maybe he tried to burn it!'' I can't even remember the he or the it! But suddenly Mac thinks I was changed to Windows because Sanders was Mexican in the book, but they recast as Cheech Marin was unavailable.
I know I'm human. And nothing else whatsoever. But I suspect a thing easily recognizes another thing, since none of us have ever seen two things argue.

You know, it just hit me: Exactly WHY does the Thing assimilate people?
It is clearly sentient, so it doesn't do this just on instinct. Does it somehow get nourishment the more creatures it assimilates?
And if it DID somehow manage to infect every living creature on Earth, then it would have had nowhere to go from there. Surely it knew that?
