Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Just watched it myself. Certainly got the blood pumping a bit. Shots in there that wouldn't be out of place in a Marvel movie, including, as @Rich Watson notes, a very Avengers Tower HQ for UNIT. If nothing else, RTD clearly still knows how to spike the adrenaline. Love how relatively sparing they're being with NPH; save as much of that guy as possible, cause fireworks are a guarantee.

Excitement building. Crossing everything RTD and co can deliver on the emotional heft as much as they seem to be visual sweep,

I don't know if this thread is talking about the trailer or if there is another thread, but as someone who left Doctor Who after Whitiker's first season (Not her fault, it was the writing), this trailer to the 60th annivarsary was incredible. It actually felt like it was asking fans of the Tennent era to come back and felt like an apology of sorts. If this is how they can bring back fans of that era while introducing the new Doctor a la the same way Eccleston introduced new fans to the show, the franchise might be heading in a right direction.

Great trailer.

I just read that the show is no longer on BBC America but is going to be on Disney+. I knew about the D+ deal but I thought that was for the older seasons while new episodes were still going to be on BBC America. Will this make me rethink about subscribing to Disney+ when my subscription ends in October. I wasn't planning to, but I have some time to think about that.

Yeah, I saw them post on twitter about it. Not a giant surprise seeing as all indications pointed towards that conclusion.

Exclusive non references to his life between 1966 and now, btw.

Agreed but it shouldn't just be the showrunners job to bang the drum, specialist PR within the BBC should have been doing this. Now if, as may be, Chibnall forbade them from doing this because he wanted to keep things a secret then it's on him, but if it was the BBC who said "Well RTD and Moffat could sell their own show why can't you?" then it's on them for not supporting/directing him to sell the bloody show!
Problem was that Chibnall seemed to think "If I make it they will come" And it worked... for one season.

Two quick thoughts: Ncuti's pretty clearly in the same place where all the old Doctors are in POTD, right?

UNIT are now based out of Avengers Tower. Disney synergy in action.
My guess is that, despite all the Tennant is the 14th Doctor stuff, Jodie regenerated into Ncuti and Tennant is the Toymaker playing games. As originally planned for the first change.

This year's 2024 special starring Russell Brand as the Doctor!!

......too soon?
Hudson and Pperdine Save the World.
Having failed to do so, Russell Brand is to repopulate the world, while RTD goes back in time to avert the apocalypse by writing a warning into his scripts. "Just don't get the Russells confused."
Best line. "Is that the Torchwood team?" "No, just the Doctor Who team, swapped seats."

UNIT’s new home is a tongue in cheek reference to D+, methinks. RTD pulled something similar with pointlessly-red Kung-Fu monks in a Victorian era story, aping the BBC’s promotional motif of that year which had similar primary colours everywhere.

I’ve also read via Reddit that Ncuti’s earlier trailer appearance had its background deliberately changed to a nondescript foggy place, to avoid disclosing any spoilers of where his Doctor REALLY was (possibly his TARDIS, but I digress). Anyway, here he’s again against a nondescript reddish background, but appears to be wearing one of his actual costumes, so that shot could be from pretty much anywhere in the following season.

Disney are doing a £1.99 a month for 3 months deal over here in the Uk at the moment, so it might be worth checking to see what they have on offer in you area.

I've had it for 4 years thanks to the introductory offer and my Cell Phone Carrier. I was going to just not renew when my subscription ended next month.

So it was UNIT who bought Avengers Tower? Remember RTD said Disney gave him some notes that he could change a bit? This is probably it. LOL

Expect a red colored Cyberman to make their appearance in a future episode ;)

Well, it certainly is an epic trailer, I'll give it that.
It's very Davies, for certain, for better or for worse. I've been only been able to watch on my phone so far but my initial thought is it'll at least be fun.

Not surprised at all that Harris is indeed the Toymaker, so I'm glad they finally confirmed it. That alone will make the experience worth the price of admission.

It's just a question of which Davies we get.

That "Kick it's ass!" beat from the trailer might just be my single favorite Donna moment ever, and I don't even have any context for it yet.

This sure LOOKS good. Very cinematic. Tennant and Tate look to be in fine form. I can safely say I'm hyped.

Tennant is 100% the 14th Doctor, RTD said it, he even posted a video on his instagram of him using a coffee coaster with a picture of Tennant and written on the coaster "The 14th Doctor".

I'm sure there's some sort of meddling going on with Tennant's Doctor, but yeah, he's very much the 14th.

I've always had qualms with how Davies uses the sci-fi setting of Doctor Who, bordering on silly more often than not. But his character interactions and drama have always been on point. I'm glad the new trailer showcased that that will still be well and alive in this new era.
