Possibly.I don't think that was a Gorn reference. It was probably that other thing.
But, I found it amusing given the topic.
And there can be workarounds as we Trek fans supposedly too. And like interconnectivity. Or something.

Perhaps unintentional. Certainly serendipitous.I don't think that was a Gorn reference. It was probably that other thing.
Generally agree with you. But hypnotically, if the writer of M'Benga's story never saw MASH, is it even an influence then? Does motivation count in this discussion? If you create something thats original in your mind but it happens to ripoff or being similar to something else, what would you call it then?
I think part of the build up in SNW is what becomes the conclusion we see in "Arena". That they were viewed as monsters (to the point of Kirk feeling like Pike would to hunt them down and destroy them) with Kirk eventually coming to a realization that the Gorn were probably defending their area of space, like anyone would do.Of course the Gorn have personhood.
And the main characters view them as monsters.
I hope we get a conclusion that satisfies both.
What I am disappointed with is the way SNW treats them monsters, it really goes against the message of Arena.
What do you think of SNWs Gorn?
They're the same picture. Not a fan at all. Just another alien turned into a fear-inducing killing machine. It's boring.
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting TOS Gorn but I sure wish they had taken the TOS Gorn and worked with it from there instead of turning them into what is essentially an entirely new species and a not very original one at that.

Perhapssss. we will ssseee that in future epissssodessss when they ssssspeak.Reading over the comments in this Thread, I get that the creators couldn’t (shouldn’t?) have recreated the TOD Gorn.
I also get the updates to their appearance, role, and motivation.
However, I did miss the TOS “Hiss-English” translation!
I mean..... they're a big, green lizard with 2 eyes, 4 limbs, and sharp teeth.
SNW gave us a big, green lizard with 2 eyes, 4 limbs, sharp teeth..... but they added a tail? Ohhhh noes.....!
They're fine.
Big mean lizards who are at odds with our heroes. Aggressively territorial. Uses subterfuge to draw in opponents for the kill. Close enough for Star Trek. Are we watching the same two shows here? Am I in the Twilight Zone? SNW Gorn are very much different from what we see in Arena.
