What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

ENT finishing ahead of TOS in the "fan" ranking was very surprising.
That's only on "The Popcasts" personal channel fan ranking.

It's not the "Global Average Fan ranking" which is the column on the left hand side.

TOS, DS9 and TNG. TNG is third place for the moment.
You're looking at the wrong column.

The "Global Average Fan Ranking" is on the Left Column with the Point Tally and is the Yellow Column.

"The Popcast" Personal Fan Ranking is on the Right Column and is the Red Column

The Popcast put TNG and VOY at the top, put ENT above TOS, and put TOS above DS9. They're Berman B&B Fans who don't like DS9 as much and who didn't get into Star Trek through TOS. So they're very specific types of fans.

I like ENT a lot.

But it’s not even in the same quadrant as TOS, DS9 or TNG. And that’s not to disparage it at all…it’s just that those other 3 series are absolutely excellent. Tough competition to be up against.

Controversial Opinion:

TNG looks and feels more dated than TOS.
Agreed! Early TNG just SCREAMS 1980s. TOS had a more classic look, at least in the first two seasons (The occasional beehive hairdo and tie-dyed costume aside).
It definitely does.

All the Roddenberry/Berman shows do.
If you want to get technical, "all the Roddenberry/Berman shows" is still just TNG. Roddenberry was gone by the time DS9 came along. ;)
Characters are always going to be the biggest selling point, at least in my experience. If you don't care about the characters or connect in some way then it's probably not going to work.
Yeah, I agree. It took me a long time to warm up to most of VOY's characters. The only ones I really liked right out of the gate were the Doctor and Tom Paris, mostly because of the actors. And some characters, like Neelix and (to a degree) Janeway, I found actively annoying.
I disagree. I think Voyager took the longest. Always felt to me like they didn’t truly figure things out until late Season 4 after Seven had already joined the show.
Yeah. I didn't see most of the back half of VOY until a couple of years ago when I watched the 11pm reruns on H&I. It really did improve after I'd given up on it (early 3rd season) and 7 of 9 was a definite shot in the arm. I like the show a lot more than I used to. Even Janeway grew on me a bit. :)

By the time of "EMISSARY", it still was not widely known just how much of a control the Borg have on assimilated people.

Additionally, his wife was killed in the attack led by Locutus. Picard, despite the audience knowing he had no choice, was still the face of Sisko's greatest loss in his life.

^ This.

They should have never introduced alternate timelines, and instead, focused more on other empires besides the Federation.

Imagine a Romulan uprising or a Borg-based movie about the queen fighting off another Borg who would take her place. There was a lot of room to tell more grittier stories about background species and other characters besides just their usual, All Federation, All The Time bias. I mean, even revisiting the Traveler would have been cool.

Mileage varies, it’s taken several rewatches for hubs and I to enjoy DS9; I like it more than he does. Glad she’s watching!

She's actually decided to watch every series. She's already done TNG with me, TOS, TAS and is on S3 of Enterprise. This is someone who would refuse to watch TNG with me until I made the deal to watch Buffy with her in return.

Happy watching! I hear it’s good.

Speaking as someone who loves Buffy as much as I love Star Trek, you're in for a hell of a ride. The two greatest TV franchises in one go. Have fun!
