DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

I'm hoping that Aquaman 2 is at least as entertaining as the first movie, despite the conflicting reports about it. Blue Beetle I'm not really invested in but will give it a watch if it gets decent reviews. I hated The Batman so I wouldn't watch a sequel, and I've never even bothered with the Joker film.

The messy thing about this situation.... do 2 of those movies count for the new iteration... or is it like The Flash, which was wait and see... i it fails, it dies with the old. If it works, it moves to the new?

It's really confusing how they keep reusing the name "DC Universe" for different things. Before this, it was the name for the streaming service that merged into HBO Max. It's also been a video game, a toy line, and the title of various comics.

Not that the name "DC Extended Universe" really made much sense if you thought about it.

Extended from what? I guess they meant it was an extension from the comics, but that doesn't really work, because it wasn't in the comics' continuity the way the Star Wars Expanded Universe purported to be in the movies' continuity. It was more of a rebooted/reimagined universe like the Arrowverse, the DC Animated Universe, the MCU, etc. And it wasn't particularly extensive compared to those.
That's why i keep using DC Film Universe.... because that is only who it applied to. They missed their chance to have "extended" it to TV (and would have had success with the Flash, instead of the eventual burn and crash).

I really wish i started this thread so we can call it the DC Omni Universe -- since it is supposed to encompass all live action, as well as games and i think animated. (and yes, the abbreviation also works when said out loud).

King's Supergirl run already ended last year, and none of those things happen to her.

Then I guess she's one of his special favorite heroes who gets to stay in character. A Human Target or Batman instead of a Wally West, Booster Gold or Guy Gardner, to use his own work as an example. Lucky for the character I guess, although I'm sure his Supergirl book in general is the same pretentious, incoherent crap all of his other books are, just minus the horrendous character assassination he occasionally indulges in.

I'm assuming thats how it will work. I mean, if rumors are true he's apparently keeping Gal Gadot around as Wonder Woman, so why not Aquaman? Aquaman might be a keeper even if his second movie is mediocre, its probably Blue Beetle whose future is most up in the air.

Momoa showing up at the end of Flash, while various others did not, could signify something.

I took it to simply mean that DC has an Aquaman movie with Momoa still coming soon.

This.

The Flash's theatrical version sliced and diced all that was no longer relevant to what will be the final DCEU movie (Affleck's scenes, which replaced Keaton's, and he was wiped from the plate in the wake of the Batgirl fiasco, where he appeared as some sort of mentor figure, etc.). So, Momoa's appearance at the end of the Miller film is just to remind audiences that he's the only part of the original universe to carry over to the altered version ( with AM seemingly unaware of what's happened.

Of course, with the transition from one film universe to an allegedly "completely" rebooted one might be the beginning of a shaky voyage, since Gunn is on record saying some DCEU actors might be brought into the reboot (e.g., Gadot returning to the Wonder Woman role).

....then, there's Blue Beetle: will he make an appearance in A2? We still do not know which side of the DCEU universe he occupies: pre-Flash, or after, and will he be carried over into the DCU?

Momoa makes a brief Peacemaker appearance too, and Peacemaker is apparently being carried into this new continuity.

It's all up in the air. I'm still not 100% sure we will see Gadot come back. She says she's in talks about further films, but so was Cavill.

I'm cautiously optimistic about most of James Gunn's planned stuff, except The Authority (it was a shitty comic that was rightfully torn apart at the conceptual level by Superman years ago)
I assume you're talking about "What's so funny about Truth Justice and the American way" story? Yeah, that was a great one. Too bad DC had to keep bringing Manchester Black back after that, completely undercutting the whole point of the original.

Then Superman later joined The Authority, because DC is just weird (although apparently that book was going to be a lot worse before grant Morrison agreed to do it, which is worrying to think about).

Man, news has really dried up due to the strikes, but in the meantime, here's a charming and funny fan poster featuring Corenswet and Brosnahan:

As there is a slim chance this will be part of Gunn's new DC Universe, I'll post this here as well:

James Wan talks a bit about Aquaman 2, notably about the rumors surrounding its troubled production.

James Wan dives deep into 'Aquaman 2' — and the DCU's changing tides

-He denies Amber Heard’s claims that her role was scaled down because of the Depp trial, that from the beginning, Mera would have a smaller role, that the relationship between her and Arthur was never going to be at the forefront the same way it was in the first movie. That it was always the plan that Arthur and Orm’s relationship was at the center of the movie.

-There was nothing unusual about the reshoots the movie underwent and that they were normal reshoots. That the only reason there were so many was because of trying to accommodate for the actor’s schedules.

-He answers “no comment” over the rumors regarding cameos of Keaton-Bats and Affleck-Bats.

-While there are some seeds in the movie for a theoretical Aquaman 3, that movie is not being actively worked on, and he is not that committed to coming back for it.

Jeez, that CGI gave me Flash vibes. And Heard not even in the trailer? But a bunch of Nicole. I am leaning towards Kidman getting a bunch of her scenes.

And if anyone believes that I've a nice big tower in the middle of Paris they might be interested in buying.

For what it's worth, trailer CGI is often an early render of lower quality than the final product. Although these days there's no way to be sure the final render will be any better.

Yeah I know, it gave me those vibes though, and this movie has been in production for so long, it's not a teaser put out while still in production....
