Spoilers AHSOKA series [Spoiler Discussion]

Still feels kinda wild that this show has two characters on overlapping heros' journeys, AND they're student and teacher. Which if you don't know much about the tropes of a heroes journey; the mentor figure is an important part of the cycle. So to have both mentor and mentee going through it at the same time is fascinating from a narrative construction point of view. For those keeping track; Ahsoka obviously just passed through the crucible of death and rebirth, while Sabine just had her failure in the "challenges & temptations" leg of the journey and is doubtlessly headed for her own revelation and attornment.

Apropos of nothing; let's all just take a moment to appreciate that this kid is about to face Darth Maul and not just *win*, but take the crazy fucker alive. That's just bonkers.

Actually, I need to amend my post because my math failed me earlier: She was born in August 2007, so she just turned 16.
OK fine, I semi un-take it back!

- Clone Wars Anakin with the shorter hair, FANTASTIC looking!
- REX! and the face painted Troopers during the Seige of Mandalore hit real hard
- Young Ahsoka was weird for me for about 5 seconds before she turned out to be excellent
- I wish we could have more and more and more Hayden as Clone Wars Anakin. He was absolutely excellent
- Actual Clone Trooper costumes still wow me every time I see them

The visual content of Ahsoka and Anakin was amazing, but I feel like the arc they are trying to present with Ahsoka through it was a bit muddy at best. I really like this show, but I don't love it, unfortunately. The story is great but the plot is too thin and requires a little too much viewer heaving lifting for my personal taste. I don't need everything spelled out in bold letters, but I feel like the way the story is presented has too much left unsaid. The themes feel weakly presented at best and are not well defined. It's hard for me to decide. I love seeing the things that happen but feel like there isn't enough per episode to say that any one episode is great. The characters don't feel fleshed out in the context of the story they are in; only in the sense that I've known them for years already and this is just part of the story. The visuals, the mood, the character acting, the overall story, I really do enjoy all of that. Jacen is surprisingly wonderful and I'm pretty on-board with Hera despite initial qualms. But the connective tissue between these parts is not doing it for me.

I feel like at this rate Thrawn will show up the last scene of the finale and we will still know very little about our other baddies. I'm hoping they ramp up some of the plot and just have Ahsoka find Ezra right away and have the story turn into saving Sabine rather than Ezra. But the way it's been going, I wouldn't be shocked if next week the entire episode features no Ahsoka and it's all about the bureaucratic fallout of the 'failed' mission and dealing with the annoying senate.

And we have what, 3 years to wait for the movie?

One neat detail I forgot to mention; the Twi'lek resistance fighters are clearly using A280's, which for those that don't recognise it is the same type of blaster rifles the Alliance troops in the OT were carrying on Hoth & Endor (and has show up in many places since, up to & including some of the other D+ shows.) A nice subtle connection between two resistance movements a generation apart. Indeed, some of them may be the same weapons kicking around. One assumes Free Ryloth joined the Alliance proper at some point, even if they later opted to stay out of the New Republic in favour of independence.

At this point, it's clear that's exactly what they are doing.

The advertised the show as this be Thrawn thing. And now it's obvious that we're going to meet Thrawn at the 11th hour, just to set up his presence for the (ugh) Filoni/Favreau Mando-verse movie.

So, essentially, this entire show is just a waste of time, just a prologue to something else. More crappy brand extension nonsense. As if the complete creative collapse of the MCU shouldn't clue them in not to do that shit anymore.

First thing I noticed.

I mean, the show is about Ahsoka and her journey as a character and becoming more than her master. I feel that that's painfully clear from her appearance in Mandalorian and BoBF, and now her journey here.

If the whole point of this was "get to Thrawn" then I might agree, but it's pretty clear from the outset that it is Ahsoka, her relationship with Sabine, Ezra, and her past, and all those things that inform her going forward.

If this is a waste of time (and what Star Wars isn't?) then I am on board for it.

I don't know what show everyone else has been watching, but I was left with the distinct impression that "getting Thrawn" was very much NOT what the protagonists want to happen. Indeed, quite the contrary. A total absence of Thrawn would be their preferred outcome in all this. Not one episode prior, Ahsoka was very clear that it would be in the best interest of all concerned to accept a deficit of Ezras to avoid a net positive of Thrawns.

Also (rhetorically speaking); what kind of short-sighted, surface-thinking, deep as a teaspoon dolt assumes that the point of the story is the end? That's not how storytelling works.

Well I doubt the Chimera is still damaged. He's had a decade to get it fixed up, and I doubt he's just been sitting around this whole time waiting around for someone to come rescue him. More likely he's been building his own little Empire out there, not unlike the Empire of the Hand from Legends.

As for those cruisers; I mean I thought the same thing, but then I remembered that they're only there to bring Hera back for a potential court martial. I can't imagine they'll have much of a reason to hang around.

If Thrawn comes back, and just wrecks a few of these new Republic cruisers with just his old, damaged Star Destroyer and a hyperspace ring, he will mean business.
Just his Star Destroyer? Didn’t the Purrgil drag a sizable fleet away from Lothal?

Some questions I hope to see answered going forward are what Ezra knew, when, and how.

Reviewing his farewell recordings, he knew not only that he would be dragged away to another galaxy and miss everyone terribly, but also that he would someday return home, couldn’t wait to see everybody again, and was counting on Sabine to make it happen.

How could he know that? Did he know about the map? Did he know that Sabine would be present when the Eye of Sion started it’s journey and be given the opportunity to come along?
