Well, SNW is Star Trek and makes the Enterprise a Constitution class ship.

I can buy that a lot more easily than the under-1000 foot length. :p

That doesn't have to mean SHIP class. It could be the class of Academy cadets which were to be posted to...the Enterprise.

Or it's the simulator which is Enterprise class. (Makes sense, since it was in fact built to resemble the Enterprise.)

Or it refers to the type of bridge module being used (which was also used on the Reliant and the Stargazer if I recall).

This. A million times this. I don't see how just saying "Nope!" to a quote posted and that's it is an appropriate level of discussion within rules.

It's a provoking thing to say. Discuss. Offer the counter opinion. Argue it.

But just "Nope!" Needs to stop.

Don't mini-mod. I don't need the help and it annoys me.

I rewatched this last night. Pretty sure I've watched this episode more times than any other of the series.

TBH I have NOT been watching Subspace Rhapsody and / or Those Old Scientists a lot just because that would happen.

Hmmmm. I've actually watched Children of the Comet a bit more than any of the others. It's almost the Corbomite Maneuver of SNW.

With apologies to those who like this episode my vote is a hard no. I almost had to shut it off 10 minutes in because I was having a hard time sitting through it. Now in all fairness I don't like musicals so obviously an episode that is basically a musical was always going to be a hard sell for me. But if Star Trek were made into a Disney movie this episode would probably be what they came up with. The only reason I push myself to finish it is because I know in every episode different things happen to impact future episodes. But like season 2 of the Picard, I seriously doubt I'll ever watch this episode again. All in all Strange New Worlds is still my favorite current show, and this episode doesn't change that. But no. I just found this episode ridiculous. Star Trek...meet Pitch Perfect. But to those that loved it, enjoy

Oh goodness, no. Disney musicals are a particular subgenre of musicals, and "Subspace Rhapsody" does not draw from that subgenre. For one thing, Disney would never have its most iconic character get publicly humiliated and dumped and then sing a bitter song about the breakup, and then have them still be broken up at the end.

True enough. I was thinking more in how in some Disney movies the characters just randomly break into song at the drop of a hat.

My daughter loves Disney movies so I usually take her to see them. But my favorites are usually the ones with little or no singing like Wreck It Ralph or Zootopia. And give Disney credit. They're not afraid of poking fun at themselves. I remember in Zootopia the fox saying something about what do you think, we break into song and everyone lives happily ever after.

But I digress. I'm sure my dislike for musicals colors my opinion on this episode.

One of the best lines, delivered by Idris Elba very, very well.

I like a lot of Disney and other type musicals.

This episode is not those.

"I don't like musicals" doesn't compute for me. It's like "I hate ice cream."

I don't think it's unusual for someone to not like musicals. Musicals are not nearly as (near) universally loved like ice cream or chocolate or bacon or pizza.

Musicals may not be niche, but they are definitely not a huge thing. Otherwise, we'd likely get a musical episode from just about every series out there.

I dunno. It really reminded me of one of those Pitch Perfect movies or something like that (maybe not the animated films so much)Not so much the plot itself, though the overall problem is solved at the end. But just in the sense that at any moment the characters can break into song and dance. It really had me thinking Disney.

But who knows. Based on the poll here (granted it's a small sample, I don't know what the general reaction is) maybe they should do a Star Trek musical. While not my cup of tea there might be a market for it ;)
