Your opinion on SNWs Gorn

If I could summarize all my feelings - it would be that with the Gorn they made the exact same mistake as early DIS with the Klingons:

Trying way too hard.

Sometimes you just need an update and deeper exploration. Not a complete, violent do-over. Especially if something is popular already.

(Though I'm much more forgiving here, as the Gorn were largely abandoned by Trek before until recently)

I'm fine with them as they are portrayed in ST:SNW.

Reptilian BiPaBs {Bi-(Pedal & Brachial)oids} could come in many forms given how many different reptiles have evolved on Earth alone.

This could be just one branch of many that we've seen so far.

My favourite Gorn moment so far. It's IMO also the one closest in spirit to TOS: The Gorn that fozght Kirk looked like a monster, but as noted by him was wearing a uniform, had sophisticated technological tools, and was an intelligent captain of its own starship. Depicting a lizard in a spacesuit feels like a modern update on the same idea.
The Gorn that infamously fought Kirk was also quite Big & Buff, built like "Big-E" from the WWE.

I’ve grown to hate the idea of the Gorn (so far) being pretty blatant Xenomorph rip-offs. Although, I do appreciate how bold they have been about it. Like no “oops, yeah I guess they are. We didn’t see it.”

that said, I fully expect to see that this is just one of a few different species of Gorn that go along with the TOS/Lower Decks Gorn and the Enterprise Gorn.

I like the new Gorn. I hope and I suspect that we'll learn more about how they work as a species. I think the Gorn species can be a very interesting concept if they're going where I think they're going. So far, so good!!

This is 2023 not 1967.

Just isn't gonna cut it.

Klingons didn't need changing much just a update , STD did screw that up and thankfully did back track on that.

The Gorn though....defiantly did need a upgrade!

Yeah, I'm good with them. I can see and to a degree understand some of the complaints people have. But the similarities to xenomorphs don't bother me atll, I can be arsed about canon and such nonsense. Star Trek hasn't been following what it said in previous episode since TOS, so whatever.

They serve the purpose they need to.

I'm ambivalent towards them - not just due to the canon implications. My usual rule for "canon-bending" is that its fine as long as it results in something more interesting than sticking strictly with canon would. I genuinely believe that most fandom doesn't worry too much about canon-bending if what they are seeing onscreen thrills and excites them enough, but if it doesn't then nitpicking about canon commences full steam ahead.

I'm not sure from what has been presented so far - some Xenomorphs and generic monster creature status - is really that interesting. There are some hints at something more intriguing bubbling away in the background which I hope develops in terms of their culture/hierarchy/instinctive behaviour etc - but I do hope it goes beyond monster tropes. I'm not expecting a Gorn that is fluent in Shakespeare - but I really hope they delve more into the intelligence behind this clearly space-faring race of reptiles that seem monsterous to us as they have an opportunity to make them a genuinely alien species that we actually struggle to understand or comprehend their behaviours, but aren't just monster creatures either.

Well, SNW really doesn't need an "Over Arcing" villian for the season or now 2 seasons.
They did well in S1, but they hinted at more in Season 2 Episode 1, but then dropped it till Ep 10.. If your going to do that, the just do couple of episodes and move on to another Villian. Plenty of Villans left. Would LOVE for them to have a go with the Tholians.
