"It will just insulate the studio from unscrupulous individuals who have a vendetta against Axanar."
Pot, meet kettle.

(4) The Studios will continue to work with fan films and the Gwinnett County School System.
So, is the way around not crowd funding fan films by creating a studio and crowdfunding rent? Or is this another way around it?

Yeah, truthfully I saw that too on the Facebook which inspired my post. Just when you think they've reached maximum bullshit it turns out they've still got plenty in the tank.
It is quite impressive that after all these years they still think it will work.

And that people keep sending them money!

The only thing worse than getting taken by a conman is admitting you were taken by a conman.

With that there's an element of Schrödinger's conman, if you keep sending money there's a hope something will come of it, if you stop, that's acknowledging you got ripped off.

Ares Studios is installing a new management structure and removing Alec and Crysstal from any involvement with the studio. "It will just insulate the studio from unscrupulous individuals who have a vendetta against Axanar."
That doesn't make sense. Let me fix it for you.

There. Now it sounds correct.

I was taken. And I admit it. But to be fair to me, when I was taken there was no sign yet of the con. They'd released one pretty good short and it looked like more was on the way.

The number of emails I still get from them (straight to junk of course) is quite astonishing.

I'd argue that, at that point, you weren't taken in at all. Initially, I don't believe there was a con it was only when the donations went from a trickle to a downpour that the greed and arrogance of certain individuals suddenly kicked in.

I also think they were quite lucky in that the rise of the axanar con coincided with the rise of internet people pan handling for a range of reasons, some good and some not so. It certainly helped them blend in with the crowd.

You say impressive I say depressing. I don't think that's as a result of axanar running a sophisticated campaign or even dazzling people with shiny possibility either.

I think it's just because they're down to the absolute pondlife now, the very dumbest and desperate-for-attention. They'll keep giving what they can because it's all they know now.

Sorry, I didn't mean folks like you who donated early on, more those that continue to pump money into this thing even though it's been obvious for five-plus years it's never happening.

Oh, I didn't mean I was arguing with you or anything. I see now that's how it reads. I was just saying what happened. :)

I still think about the money they screwed me out of. I can't imagine pouring good money after bad the way these people do.

I was also taken. There was no sign of the con at the time, but I was taken. My contribution was to make a fan flim, not an independent Star Trek feature, and certainly not for a studio.

I got the same email from Ares Studios earlier this week. I can remember being on this board being pro-Axanar when it didn't seem like it was a scam. I sensed something was up when I got their "annual report" and saw that salaries had been taken, and that there were auto expenses and cell phone bills paid. That became an instant red flag. Also this new person in charge of the studio, they claim was involved in 6 other fan films. Which ones? The email didn't say.

I'm no longer active in the donor Facebook group, and haven't been for several years. I remember once asking AP why he couldn't have it be the Constitution-class ships that turned the tide of the war. I also pointed out that there were sets out there that he might have been able torent in order to make the movie if he'd adapt his script to it. He gave me some excuse about how he had to have the Ares, and couldn't make Axanar without the Ares. I thought it was a lame excuse.

Axanar has really soured me on wanting to make or be involved with fan films. I still watch them, but I have no desire to make one or contribute to any financially anymore. Even ones I contributed to in the past that followed through with their film, and perk. It makes me think of the phrase one bad apple spoils a bunch.

I really believe Axanar will never get made. I no longer want to see Alec Peters version of Axanar, and my blu-ray of Prelude has been in a drawer in the back of my closet since the lawsuit and hasn't been watched since. The Interlude film was not good at all, and I've read 2 versions of the Axanar script that was all space battles. There was no growth or character development.

Me too. I was always sucker for History Channel documentaries back in the day and Prelude reminded me of that. It was a totally different take on fan films that I greatly appreciated, with professional actors serving on the cast and a number of artists from behind the scenes (Tourangeau, Richter) whose work I have long admired. I freely admit to having contributed $75 back in 2014 to see more of that. I saw the potential there and I am not ashamed. Many of us did.

Alas... :(

Me too. That was the first red flag (of many). Bait-and-switch.
I think it was always intended to be a movie - the "History Channel" format was just intended to be a creative way to make an extended trailer which in turn could be used to raise EVEN MORE money!
The trouble was, the new format was incredibly well done and received - something new and innovative in fan films at last! So it was disappointing for many to realise that Axanar was not going to be like that after all.
