Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

The Shuttlepod show will be interviewing Terry Matalas .I've been looking forward to listening this interview

Is Matalas even allowed to do that with the strike going on?
I believe they're allowed to talk about past projects as long as it's not at the request of the studio (PR/marketing), no contracts are being signed to do so, and they avoid promoting speech. Basically, appearing on a personal level and not in service of any business or payment.
Since he is not currently working for Paramount, the stuff he will be talking about is already released, and he is not performing any PR, I think he's fine to talk about his experiences as a private individual. He just needs to avoid speaking like he's trying to convince people to watch it, avoiding any talk that could be interpreted as promotion.
I'd guess he'll probably stick closely to his personal experiences/challenges in the industry and not stray too far from that. The scope of their talk might go a little wider to focus on his careers as whole rather than any one project, to avoid seeming like they're promoting one thing.

Terry is talking about Enterprise and 12 monkeys and working on Picard seasons 2 and 3 right now. And he's talking about bringing Todd Stashwick onto Picard season 3 and his dungeon and dragon games with the other actors on the show right now.

I think they should retcon out the Enterprise-J as an Alternate Future, like "All Good Things", "The Visitor", "Timeless", and "Endgame".

There are only two Enterprises between the G and the J, assuming the I isn't skipped over due to looking too much like a 1. Either way, it's getting claustrophobic.

The G, H or I is going to last a long time if the 2570 timeframe for the J is still in play whatever the conditions of her launch and history of service. At least one of the current or next two Enterprises is going to have a very long service life or we're looking at Starfleet informally retiring the name and registry for a few decades out of sheer exhaustion.

I can believe season 3 had the lowest budget. Aside from the Enterprise D's bridge, they didn't build any new sets for that season, everything else we see in the third was built for either the first or second. Season 2 being the most expensive? It's possible. 90% of that season was location filming, which is actually significantly more expensive than studio shooting. Add into that new sets, like the Stargazer, Guinan's bar, new Starfleet uniforms, plus another batch of uniforms for the Confederation timeline, and, yeah, there would be quite a lot of money being spent there.
The person is talking about the set design budget. I have a feeling Picard season 3 had one of the highest budgets; but the majority of said budget went to getting all seven of the original actors to reprise their roles; ( and yes while I'm sure they were all interested in doing it, you can bet they realize they're worth and got top dollar to come back and play those characters.) They also had a lot of popular secondary characters reprise their roles as well, and again I'm sure that didn't come cheap.

And as far as 'new' sets go, I'm sure they blew a lot of the budget on recreating the 1701-D Bridge set.

So yeah in the end that didn't leave a lot for the remainder of that pieces needed to film scenes, so I'm sure they were reusing every set piece they could that remained from season 2.

In his Rise Of The Federation novels, @Christopher reasoned that there wasn't a new Enterprise right after the NX-01 for two reasons;
First, Archer and his crew/ship caused quite some frustration and upheaval for the Klingons. To keep diplomatic relations cool, it was decided to not have a new ship called Enterprise out there straight away.
Second, Starfleet at that time was ofcourse still forming and getting to know itself. The Fleet consisted of ships from all members of the Federation. There was an Andorian ship out there with a name that basically translated to Enterprise, so it didn't make sense to have to ships with basically the same name.
I always liked both reasons. So maybe something similar happened after the G, H or I and they just don't have an Enterprise for a while.

Or maybe the Enterprises G, H, I or even the J itself actually last a decent amount of time rather than the decade or so if you're lucky that it appears all Starfleet ships in the 2380s-2400s are apparently good for.

They did go 19 years between the C and the D, and that was right after relations with the Klingon Empire changed and not just for the better, but in the direction of a formal alliance. So yeah, anything's possible and for reasons that may or may not make much if any sense.

It already is. The Ent-J is from a timeline were the Sphere Builders expanded slowly.

There's no evidence it exists in that form after the NX-01 defeated the sphere builders in the 22nd Century.

I know that there are restrictions about the strike but was there anything said in STLV that was interesting re: Picard s3? Or any other season?

Okay, good. Bring on the Enterprises! The more, the merrier!

Just binged through the second half of PIC S3.
I feel like the show was just way too long; they could have dropped 2 episodes easily and still had the same impact.
It was a pretty decent show but I wasn't blown away by it.

Episodes 3/4 and 7/8 could have easily been tightened into a single episode each, I would have preferred if episode 6 had been split into two, the Museum and Daystrom plots seemed crammed together.
