I would totally be down with an updated TOS

ELCHawk

Commander
Red Shirt
show airing after SNW with Wesley, Pike, Gooding, and Bush plus the other classic characters and hopefully they are perfectly cast too.

For me the biggest issue is would the younger actors want to play those characters for another series?

Wesley has stated he would play Kirk for a long time. But what about the others? They are all young and talented. They might not want to be typecast as these classic characters.

Personally, I hope SNW goes on for 7 total seasons but then a TOS spinoff. I grew up with TNG/DS9. TOS was before my time and I never could get into it with the 60's cheesiness. So a lot of those stories would be new to me.

I don’t think any streaming series will go seven seasons. Five seasons seems to be the upper limit.

Whether SNW actors would go for it depends on their SNW contracts and whether Paramount attempts any hijinks, such as if they are due for a pay raise in SNW season 4, but Paramount cancels SNW after season 3, and uses a TOS season 1 to reset their pay back closer to the baseline.

You are basically asking for the fourth and fifth seasons of TOS that never happened. Plus, live action version of TAS episodes. Plus, undeveloped TAS episodes developed for live action. Plus, Phase II.

That might get five, maybe seven seasons. But its not replacing TOS.

Five is not the upper limit.

The Handmaid's Tale: 6

Peaky Blinders: 6

Game of Thrones: 8

The Expanse: 6

Better Call Saul: 6

Orange is the New Black: 7

Bojack Horseman: 6

Lucifer: 6

House of Cards: 6

The Crown: 6

The Blacklist: 10

The Walking Dead: 11

Grace and Frankie: 7

Big Mouth: 6

Yes.

I watch a lot of TV.

Shows do run for more than 5 seasons though.

I said streaming shows don’t go more than 5 seasons. By that, I meant streaming-only shows, not shows that originally aired on somewhere else then moved to streaming.

Of the list you posted, I think Orange is the New Black is the only streaming show, so you’re right that it can happen, but it’s exceedingly rare and the show has to be a massive hit.

The Crown started as a streaming show.

House of Cards was always a streaming show.

The Handmaid's Tale is a streaming show.

Lots of others on that list have always been streaming shows.

I'll grant you some haven't always been. The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, I was mistaken.

But most things on that list have always been streaming shows.

Orange Is the New Black went seven, and it made me think Discovery and the other Trek shows could hit seven. Past tense. But OITNB was also one of the first streaming series. So as series that were introduced later started ending sooner, I started to get a better picture in my head of what was really going on.

The way it looks to me now, I think Discovery will have the highest episode count of any Kurtzman Trek series. Except for possibly Lower Decks.

I think SNW does five, giving it the equivalent of two full seasons of an Old Trek series (50 episodes). If SNW is "TOS for the 2020s" then, between TOS and SNW, you'd finally have "five" live-action seasons of "TOS"-type Trek.

Ending SNW in 2026 (when the fifth season would be), and handing the Enterprise to Kirk in a "60th Anniversary Episode" seems like a natural thing. Plus 2026 is the end of Kurtzman's contract, IIRC.

If the Strikes start to go on too long, then change everything I said about SNW lasting five seasons to four.

Pretending that one knows enough to make predictions about this stuff is foolishness.

The streaming balloon inflated and deflated - for now - so quickly that conclusions about supposed trends and customary practices are being derived from very little real information.

The only thing that's close to certain, it seems, is that however these services were being managed two years ago is not how they'll be managed two years from now.

But, I guess it's something to talk about to kill time on the Internet, huh?

After SNW ends I wouldn't mind them jumping forward and covering some of the years between TMP and TWOK.

I've been saying this for a long time. There is a whole 15 year period of time aboard the original NCC-1701 that has never been tapped into, a golden age set aboard the refit Enterprise when the whole TOS cast was back together. I have ALWAYS wanted that show. I always will, and I hope someday we get it.
