I find it telling that for years we've heard constant cries of "Star Trek is too serious", when Disco was the flagship series. Now that SNW is the flagship series, it's "Star Trek is too silly".

At this point I am pretty well convinced that there exits a subset of fandom that is only happy when they are angry. Some fans can never be happy.
Oh, I recall it and seeing it on both sides. ST 09 was "too dumb and fun. Made Star Trek look stupid and wasn't supposed to be that way." Then Discovery shows up and it was "Oh, no! Star Trek was never about darkness and horrible topics or dark characters. It has to be lighter!"I really don't recall ever hearing this as a complaint, but I could be wrong. I don't mind some light and levity in Trek- I just don't want Trek to turn into constant dumb comedy.
His opinions always are. This opinion is a minority one
I would have loved to have met Sir PTerry.I once moderated a panel on British humor vs. American humor, featuring Pratchett and Esther Friesner. Easiest gig I've ever had.
"Terry, meet Esther. Esther, meet Terry. Go!"![]()
Hell, Picard S3 is the sort of thing which would have appealed to me when I was a teenager but didn't now that I'm in my late 30s.I like strange new worlds a lot more than Picard season 3 and I’m not a kid or teenager
I have to agree. Fans need to relax a little. It’s why the state of movies and TV is what it is. People are too uptight! The musical episode may be a heck of a lot of fun!

DS9 disagrees.Trek should be wagon train to the stars.
You keep using that phrase. I do not think it means what you think it means.Trek should be wagon train to the stars.

I think you must define 'disastrous' differently to most people. Charades was anything but.
https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-2x05-charades.314583/
So 'disastrous' that more than 150 users here voted it 8/10-10/10. To put that in perspective, that's 73% of those who voted.
Presumably you're one of the three people who gave it a 1/10?
If you didn't like it, whatever, but it was very, very, very far from disastrous.
Actually mostly by casablanca.DS9 was partly inspired by "The Rifleman."
