Random thoughts:

I think that T'Pril loves that casually energized aspect of Sevet, but she also lives under Vulcan society's prejudices, so she reacts much more sternly to him (and T'Pring) to mitigate it. Sarek's predilection towards emotional people made he and Sevet natural friends, and T'Pril has warring ideas of her fondness for emotionality and her own fear of being ostracized, and so tries to stamp it out where she can. Sevet just goes along with it all because he loves her and he's a bit oblivious.

I could see the betrothal of Spock and T'Pring as being attempts by Sarek and T'Pril as an attempt to prove their bona fides with a society that looked down upon them.

I've always wondered why Amanda Grayson, a modern 23rd century woman, would agree to such an outmoded idea of an arranged marriage for her son. I'm thinking she got spooked (by Sarek, probably) about Spock going insane and dying during an unbonded pon farr, so she reluctantly acceded. She probably also figured that since Sarek was divorced (?), if Spock were unhappy, he could ultimately end the marriage.
Sarek's not divorced. TNG outright said Amanda was his first wife. SNW doubled down on this with Spock describing Sybok as being born "out of wedlock". So we don't know what the circumstances between Sybok's mother (a Vulcan princess) and Sarek was, but they weren't married.

As for Spock going insane and dying alone during pon farr, I suppose it was possible but whoa are those fears unfounded. When all is said and done Spock will probably be canonically established to have bedded more women than Kirk did. We haven't even gotten to Leila Kalomi yet!

Fun episode that suffers from the prequel nature forcing canon adherence unfortunately. Chapel and Spock are good together, but it's doomed to fail unless they use some clever trick to explain why they hid their relationship during TOS and the movies.

I'm not really sure how I feel about the whole mother-in-law thing. It feels like a sexist trope, but I'll let someone else articulate whether or not it's actually problematic these days.

That said, Vulcans really are a stupid culture. lol
I know it's a problem with all of Star Trek's cultures, except maybe the Bajorans, but one wonders how they have all these stupid rules while managing their reliance on logic.

It's kind of weird that Mia Kirshner (48 y/o) is playing Ethan Peck's Mother (37 y/o).
Not technically impossible, but still kind of odd given Ethan Peck's age.

We have seen that forever in Hollywood. Sally Field playing Tom Hanks' mom a few years after being a potential romantic interest for him, for instance.

In-universe, Federation medical technology is better than ours. Maybe Amanda is just how people in their 60s look.

So the question is what happens that causes Chapel to dump Spock for Roger Korby?
i dont think she does the dumping. i think spock will do the dumping. that is why she seems to can let go by tos and spock is aloof to her

i think the show is tieing up some things as they have already mentioned Korby. i think maybe they will introduce leia kemoni or another female figure that spock will star showing affections for and that is what will cause the break up and chapel getting engaged to korby.

TNG outright said Amanda was his first wife.

What does "TNG outright said" mean? Was this on a viewscreen, like some sort of factual recitation? Or was it a character casually mentioning Amanda as opposed to Perrin?

I was not saying Spock would go insane and die alone, I was saying that Sarek could have been hyping that up as a possibility to get his way with having an arranged marriage. Amanda Grayson appears to be white American or Canadian-descended, so likely was raised in a culture that has moved away from such things and focuses on love being an essential (or prerequisite) aspect of marriage. Also given, even if Vulcans are exclusively heterosexual, Amanda would know Spock's human side would make for the possibility of his not necessarily even being ultimately attracted to women.

Hmmm. You know. This is just purely me pulling from space but I would think Vulcans are pansexual and mate across genders purely for reproductive reasons particularly during Pon-far.

Actually, I'm starting to worry about the last season of SNW, whenever that is. Someday all of these bills are going to come due. M'Benga's going to get himself demoted, for instance.
Based on the Khan "supposed to happen 30 years ago" reveal, anything can deviate from TOS cause history has been changed already. Spock can marry Chapel, Tea'Bring can ditch Stonn, M'Benga can remain CMO with Bones not even appearing...

We haven't even gotten to Leila Kalomi yet!
Leila was simply geiler (for the Germans here :D)

I gave it a 9. The episode isn't fantastic but my crush on Jess Bush and my "Spapel" shipping pushed me up. Fun episode overall.
Chock ;)

Or she regrets dumping Spock and he's aloof because he's still mad at her for dumping him. Plus I'm not sure Spock will dump Chapel for Kalomi. The whole business with pretty blonde woman Leila Kalomi coming around after a failed relationship with Chapel screams to me that Chapel dumps Spock and he's literally on a rebound, even getting together with a woman who physically resembles Chapel.

Captain's log, Stardate 43917.4 The Enterprise has been given the singular honour of hosting the first meeting between the Federation and a mysterious race known as the Legarans. We are in orbit around Vulcan, preparing to welcome aboard Federation Ambassador Sarek and his wife Perrin, who like his first wife, is from Earth.

Unless Vulcan princesses are going to be said to be coming from Earth now, Sarek's first wife was Amanda.

Well, that was a fun episode.

Not only did it give us comedy, but real heart. I pumped my fist at the ending, but I also damn near cried at Spock acknowledging what his mother has went through and the strength it required.

Having lost my own mother a little over a year ago, this hit me hard.

Thankfully, this was all balanced with fun scenes of nearly the whole cast getting involved with the hijinks.

Plus, we got to encounter a new and interesting alien species.

9 outta 10. Another great episode with what may honestly be my favorite cast.
