News Star Trek Prodigy Cancelled, Season 2 to be shopped around

There is a blu-ray for season 1A, which you can buy from Amazon and other places (in the US only, sadly)

And Canada! :)

(Sorry, not trying to rub it in to the rest of the world or anything, I just wanted @Vxc961 to know in case they happen to be from Canada, they don't have to go through the extra expense of importing from the US.)

Its a big deal if they were losing all the Star Treks, so I'd expect somekind of statement or acknowledgement given how upset alot of Trekkies will be with them.

For those of you not following the Crave thread in GTD, it appears that Crave has officially confirmed with Trekmovie.com that the Star Trek series are leaving Crave. The exception for now is SNW, which they say will still be available until sometime in the fall.

Although it is interesting to note that this apparently just affects streaming, and the shows will still air on CTV Sci-Fi Channel.

Thanks to @trekfan_1 for posting the article in the other thread.

I’m wondering if it is worth just picking up the new series on physical media. Picard’s full series comes out this fall and I think Discovery might have something similar next year. It’s going to be quite an investment though but I can’t trust these streaming services after what they did to Prodigy. I guess if I do cut back on these services I can use that money for the various series blu rays.

I have TOS & TNG on physical media and I do watch them from time to time. And all the movies minus a couple. I watched them straight through once I got them. Though I must admit, I have seen them all multiple time via syndication before buying.

I got 1-10 of Prodigy the other day and will likely be in for Picard. DS9 shouod be next based on merit, but DISCO is certainly an option as well. As the genesis of the NuTrek boom, it deserves a special place.

Regardless, it's always nice to have a pretty thing to put on a shelf.

I pre-ordered Prodigy Vol 2 episodes 11-20 on Blu-Ray at Target's website and it's supposed to be available in late September.

I think it's safe to say all 20 episodes of Prodigy S1 are safe, but S2's the one that's at risk of never being released and ending up in a vault if Paramount fails to find another provider that's willing to stream it.

Not sure if this is the news he was referring to, (more likely, the glimmer of hope was that all 20 episodes of Prodigy are available to buy digitally in America now) but Waltke and Casper Kelly are working on a TAS style show that will include Frakes and Shimerman, among others.

EDIT: Little more info just posted from Trekcore. More concrete info to come on Star Trek Day.

"More from Casper Kelly on the new TAS-style animated shorts coming: “Five shorts. Almost all the shows will be represented. Including actors from throughout Star Trek.” No word on how long they will run or if they are being considered a continuation of the Short Treks series."

When it says "promotional shorts", are these just going to be ads, or is this actually going to be a proper series, sort of like a fully-animated Short Treks?

The actual news he was referring to is that the second half of S1 is now available for digital purchase again (in the US, anyway. I don't think it ever left in the UK). And the DVD/Blu-ray has been officially announced. All in all, Prodigy is looking like a very lucrative purchase, especially with the strike: regardless of whether its writers are part of the Animation Guild or not, S2 is pretty much finished, so no more writing or voice acting needs to occur. Streaming services are going to need some new content when what they currently have finished runs out.

Just preordered the back half of Prodigy on Amazon. Hopefully we get a season 2, but I still won't ever trust Paramount+ again.

Yes, the strike is not bad for the commercial prospects of Prodigy. A way to get ± 400 minutes of new content with top animation (and an operation like Netflix would not be limited to the same time limit per episode as Nickolodeon, so the episodes could even be re-edited to be a bit longer if useful) during a time that little new content can be produced, seemingly would be attractive.

On the other hand, Netflix has international production (partially forced by local laws) so not all of their series would be affected by the strike. Ironically, it's rather Paramount itself that would seemingly benefit from keeping Prodigy S2 on P+ after all.
