Sulu did it several times.

they didn’t imply that at all.
Tinnitus certainly can happen in the 23rd century, for example you could certainly get it after a loud explosion, but this doesn’t mean that a quick trip to sickbay wouldn’t get rid of it.

noticed that: they pretty much gave up entirely on having uniforms timelines make any sense. With this the current uniforms predate the “new” ones introduced in discovery season 2. Argh.

Even in the 24th century there seems to be a limit as to what medical science can do in regards to repairing/healing nerve damage..which tinnitus is.

Overall enjoyable. To me it felt like it was grasping at too many strands. Pike's romance. Ortega - great to see her get some more airtime - and her narrative. And memory loss. And a medieval story. And the effects of someone left behind and contamination in a society. And a huge narrative of forgetting every day and the pros and cons of that.

It would have been better if it thinned its focus.

But my main takeaway is this wonderful cast. I just want more of all of them. I love seeing Pike and Number One just chat about anything and feel like we are expanding on a niche story from 60 years ago. It feels glorious. And I love the cast's chemistry. Even Nurse Chapel got to nurse, which was nice.

And as a random aside I love Pike's quarters design. So many nice things going on here, and like they pushed with Sisko it's nice to see someone cook and be social around cooking.

Can anybody identify the relief artwork on the wall in Pike's quarters?

I'd rather they end these shows with some jovial banter (like TOS) rather than the stuff begging for kleenex.

This is very confusing.
In other words, I've enjoyed each episode this season. I don't think any of them are like episodes I place as high as Darmok or Best of Both Worlds or whatever, but they're fine episodes that I've personally rated 8 and I could watch them again if I was feeling lazy and just wanted something familiar .

Meanwhile I have no desire to revisit any individual episode of Picard, let alone any of the three 10-episode arcs in their entirety.

I really enjoyed this week's episode. It had that unsettling, "Make it stop" (sorry Erica Ortegas, you fly the ship) feeling, but it was used really well. I really thought it was going to be auditory, making Uhura the only one susceptible. Very TOS with the "big bad" being a former Starfleet officer stranded on the planet.

I really liked the theme of "Feelings make it real" which is, very classic Trek treating stoicism as lacking, hence the jokes and plots around Spock (and later characters like Tuvok) having to reconcile their logic with their feelings.

I was wondering how they'd tie up the Batel as the prosecutor storyline. The awkwardness between the two seemed realistic. While Pike did step in it, I don't think Batel was doing much better, seemingly not acknowledging how it put a strain on their relationship. I'd still like more of a classification on just what their relationship is, seeing as how Pike saw no problems sleeping with battery planet woman. They do seem to have a, "What happens on missions stays on missions" dynamic.

I liked the spotlight on Ortegas, but I'd like more than "fly the ship" as a personality. Being a part of the away team seemed to offer that, but it was snatched away (in a clip they released months ago). I understand why, but it was a bit of a slap in the face when Pike made her connect the dots that she was needed to fly the ship like only she could, and then Una was like, "I can totally do it, too, who do you think did it before you?" I get she was in command of the ship, but it still seemed a bit of slap.

I was down on last week's episode, but this one seemed to redeem that. I guess it was really convenient the previous encounter was so short (though I doubt Pike would view it as convenient, given how hard he was taking things in "The Cage"). Still for the trouble they gave them in that previous encounter, a confused Pike and green fluid-less M'Benga should did dispatch them fairly easy. You'd think former crewman would have ensured better protection. Unless he was counting on Pike coming back for a recogning and thought his confusion would allow him to overtake Pike, cause him to remember, and then strip him of his memories again.

I did like Sammy Jenkis appearing in this episode. Really deep cut. ;)

Thank you.

Which is funny to me because Stoics used emotion but were not governed by their passions. It's come to mean emotionless but reading Marcus Aurelius and other philosophy in Greeks has led to a better understanding of balance in life.

I can’t remember if the Disco delta was on any of the gear, or maybe he had an older style away team jacket.
It has the SNW SFC emblem

8/10

This is more like it. The crew is together in this episode ,working to solve a problem and everyone had a chance to shine. I thought Spock had the right solution until it was revealed that the ability to read would also be lost. Thank goodness the ship can talk ;)

I thought the story itself was interesting and I was never bored. I was on the edge of my seat wondering how they were going to get out of this predicament. Thankfully the solution was believable and I was glad that the writers were able to get some character development for Ortegas during a mostly plot driven episode. I WAS a bit surprised that Ortegas didn't go down to the planet with them as I thought I had seen that in an earlier trailer. Maybe that's in another episode.

I was trying to remember if we had ever had another Trek episode similar to this. The closest would probably be TNG's Conundrum, but that was a memory loss brought on by an alien who was trying to pass himself off as a member of the crew and trying to get the ship to win a war for him. Similar, but still different enough that I don't think you can accuse them of lifting a story.

Good second story on Pike's personal relationship. The trouble of carrying on a relationship while serving in Starfleet is even more challenging when both are captains on different ships. We saw a similar relationship on DS9 between Sisko and Yates. I don't recall Pike being married on the old show and I'm sure if he was he would want his wife or girlfriend to go to Talos with him to live the rest of his days. So him breaking it off didn't throw me for a loop as I'm suspecting that it ends at some point.

Vastly prefer good but not great episodes to season long slogs. lol

If the arcs were like...better...they wouldn't feel like such a slog. Some other shows can do arcs pretty well but in Trek they just seem undercooked and overdone at the same time, if that makes sense. Honestly now that I'm thinking of it it's very few shows of any genre that can do arcs well...I think the current trend needs to change. PIC would've been better as a movie or 2. Didn't need 26 dreary hours and a few better ones.

Anyone else think Spock's idea to flee into the asteroid belt would only make things worse and instead he should have gone for empty space?

Isn't that the logic? When in a situation you go where you came from (you know what is there) not too where you haven't been (you don't know what's there.)

Spock should've been smarter than that.

That font is truly painful to read. It jams every 'I' up against the neighboring letters so closely you can barely see the I's.

And for a scientific organization, they apparently forgot to use subscripts when writing chemical formulas.

Is that blue "READYROOMVIEWSCREEN" (spaces, ffs?) supposed to actually be on the TV screen? I wondered if that was a label from the VFx file.

And why is the word 'mean' under the planet's age? I think that's a typo.
