Boyce is possible. Perhaps a one-episode appearance where Phil visits Chris and they catch up on events since Boyce transferred off of the Enterprise. But that would in all likelihood be the only shot at seeing him.
And while I'd love for Boyce to be played by Jeffrey Combs for many reasons I feel somebody else would play him if the character does show up.

I could've sworn someone said they wanted Mark Harmon from NCIS as Boyce.
I think we have as much chance of seeing Dr. Boyce as we do of seeing Dr. Mark Piper.

I do not understand the obsession with this character's return. The actor was is tons of stuff in the 50's and 60's. I doubt he formed as close an attachment to Philip Boyce as some of y'all.

I think his popularity has a lot to do with the obscurity of the character with the whole doctor/bartender thing.

This scene really made Boyce memorable and it still holds up, that's why.
This show could benefit from Boyce or something in a similar role. Someone who will confront Pike, challenge him, allow him to see other perspectives. Allow his inner conflict to be debated and played out for audiences.
To an extent, we've had Bones, Troi, Guinan, Dax, Tuvok, and T'Pol/Phlox play that role on their respective series with their captains.
Number One is too in love with Pike to really challenge him that way. I would have kept Boyce in play.

I mean, if John Hoyt were alive he'd be 118 so obviously my post was somewhat of a joke. But if magically he was in good health and didn't have the career of someone like Clint Eastwood, why not? A job is a job and money is money. Dick Van Dyke came back for Mary Poppins Returns at 90 something after all.
Are we watching the same show? Because other than her being one of the few people Pike has revealed his Boreth vision to, they have not followed up on this at all and in fact she's telling him to go back to Batel even though Batel might really not be good for him (he can't even trust her with Boreth like he can with Una)

I've seen the scene a bunch of times. It's a very olden days manly exchange. But the relationship is nicely drawn.
Why are people assuming Number One is in love with Pike? They seem to be close friends and colleagues who've known each other for years. She isn't holding a torch for him or anything like that. Men and women, men and men, women and women, theys and thems, can love each other without ever wanting to jump bones. And this is coming from someone rubbing hands together in gleeful anticipation of the T'Pring/Spock/Chapel mess she hopes to get.
Cool, yeah, but then you go and make this blanket assumption about Batel and trust. We don't know what happens in the future of the relationship because we haven't seen it yet!
The scene is a garden variety take on the 'friendly Bartender' talking to the (sometimes his old friend of many years) Sherriff (or 'hero' Gunslinger) from your typical Western, just transplanted to the science fiction setting.
