So this appears to be another bomb in a year of bombs.

So why do people think people have not turned out? Poor marketing? The franchise is just past it?

Poor reviews I’m guessing. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to allow people to review it early

We just got back from seeing it. We enjoyed it.

I’d give it a B.

1. Ark
2. Crusade
3. Dial
4. Temple
5. Skull

You know what?

I don't care. Box office takes doesn't determine the quality and it certainly doesn't determine my enjoyment of it.

I loved the film and I know I'm not the only one. That's all that matters.

Does it mean we might not get more adventures with Helena? Perhaps, but that's okay. I can live with that.

You know what? Damn all the negative reviews, that movie was fun!

It was a worthy end for the character. Maybe I'll say more later, maybe I won't. But, I definitely enjoyed that film as someone whose favourite film of all time is Raiders of the Lost Ark.

indeed there are dozens of you.

It’s absolutely certain we will never see or hear of that character again.

A complete reboot in about ten years is more likely.

A-

This was a lot of fun and a great way to end the series. Possibly my second fav Indy movie after 'Crusade'. I liked the twist at the end with Archimedes. Definitely didn't see that coming. Helena was a fantastic edition to the cast and just oozed charisma. I would love to see the series continue with her as the lead. The CGI in the flashback scenes was really good. Having old Indy's voice was a little weird, but not too jarring. And I'm glad Indy got a sorta happily ever after ending.

I don't want a reboot of the franchise. I don't want to see another reboot or remake of another pop culture franchise. I would like to see something ORIGINAL, if possible.

Right now, my ranking is:

1. Temple of Doom
2. Raiders of the Lost Ark
3. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
4. The Last Crusade
5. Dial of Destiny

Disney paid too much for the IP for it to sit there.

Yes, I saw the trailer. Yes, I saw it anyway. And yes, I still wish the movie could have created a more original villain.

It's a dilemma, I suppose, to feel this way and yet continue to watch the product. My favorite is when people say they don't like something so they're just going to pirate it so they do still want to see the thing they don't like. I know I've been there, watching some old dross for completion sake or FOMO of missing a few good moments or at least discussions if I don't. Unfortunately, it probably contributes to maintaining that status quo and the die-hard fans are the worst since they will likely go see something borderline to "make up their own minds" about it.

my ranking exactly, except I gave it an A.
I agree with many that it could have used some trimming, but overall, this was a helluvah way to put a button on it.

What really threw me was the next to last scene. Was NOT expecting that!
I will enjoy seeing this again and again.

My luke-warm take is that unlike Star Wars, there hasn’t been years and years of new content to draw in new, younger fans. All of the non-movie content for Indy came out when we were still young.

This is the first movie I have seen in a theater in approximately 2 years. So I would imagine a lot of the 45-60 year olds who grew up with Indy are waiting for the stream.

The only younger kids I saw today in the mostly filled theater were with their parents.

yep - 47 - thought I would wait for streaming. Unlike Top Gun Maverick it did not feel like it need a trip to the cinema.

I think Disney has miscalculated the degree to which they have alienated their customer base with their content these past years, and just like the Bud Light and Target backlashes, they are getting it socked to them in the pocketbook. Although with Disney it's been going on a few years, not just recently like the other examples.

Whether you or I agree with Disney's choices or not, the simple truth is that the majority of people who used to spend money on their movies and stuff are no longer giving them the benefit of the doubt on these opening weekends, then usually word of mouth and review bombers are the final nails in the coffin of these productions.

For myself, I'll wait and stream it. Theater viewings are becoming rarer for me as time goes on and I get more intolerant of douchebags on their phones during movies, along with no real desire to see one of the legendary great movie icons stumble along as an octogenarian in a production trying to bleed the last dollar out of the franchise.
