What do you guys actually like about discovery?

You'll have to look at the episode threads themselves to see my fresh reactions. But I cover what I like about Discovery in these two threads right here, a little while after the fact. So these are my reactions after the dust has settled.

My thoughts about Seasons 1 and 2: Series Rewatch Leading Up to Season 3 | The Trek BBS
My thoughts about Season 4: Binging Season 4 | The Trek BBS

I haven't re-watched and re-reviewed Season 3 as a whole yet, but I'll do that when I circle back around to DSC. I'm currently in the middle of re-watching PIC.

What do I like about Discovery:
One, the design language. I love the ships (save for the Discovery/Crossfield class), phasers and uniforms.

Two, the characters. Burnham and Saru both deal with their own mental health struggles in interesting and dynamic ways.

Three, the aliens. I love the Klingons, the Kelpians, the Ba'ul, as well as the unique way they are used.

Finally, it's a show that has some incredible epic moments that I watch and watch again.

The visual effects, sets, props, costumes, etc. are absolutely stunning. I also like many of the actors, like Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Wilson Cruz, Shazad Latif, and Jason Isaacs.

I like bits rather than the whole.
Saru,Reno and Stamets.
Nice tech on display and no slavish adherence to the ‘almighty canon’.
There are things I don’t like (Book) and of course :wah:

Things I like:

1) Saru - Probably the best character in all of the modern Star Trek, especially in Seasons 2 and 3.
2) The Spore Drive and the Ship Jump Effect
3) The stretch from "Into the Forest I go" to "Vaulting Ambition" in Season 1 (Didn't like what Lorca turned into or his death)
4) Episodes where characters like Owo and Detmer have more to do, such as New Eden
5) The Introduction of Pike to Modern Trek
6) The communication storyline with Species 10-C. That is quintessential Star Trek to me
7) The stretch of episodes in Season 4 dealing mostly with Zora
8) The introduction of Short Treks to make the Discovery universe more well rounded
9) Paul Stamets, specifically the first two seasons
10) Culber taking on the councelor role in Seasons 3 and 4. I think Discovery spoke a lot to Mental health and using Culber in that way was a great thing for that character.

Basically to sum this up, I love the quiet character moments this show has provided. There are things I didn't like, of course, and it's not my favorite of the New Treks, but it did provide some entertainment value.

I just cant understand.

All the things you guys listed that you liked about the series are either irrelevant or reasons why I despise this show.

You know what? I'll give this show another chance.

I think the show is shit, but I do like the spore drive and the jump effect. I like the snarky engineer chick too.

I also like the concept of the latest seasons, even if it is bad.

You asked a question, I gave you a response, and now you just called it Irrelevant. You started this thread saying No Trolling intended, but this response makes me not so sure.

If he has to go out of his way to say it, then we know what that means...

Okay but, when you do, just make it sound plausible. Don't do a 180.

I will give it a full rewatch and try to be as objective in my analysis as possible. Give me some time.

P.S. Your avatar always makes me laugh.

I have a pretty good idea where both this topic and the OP are headed, but I'll expend a tiny bit of energy anyway even though it will probably be wasted when they both go bye-bye.

OP, I'm no lover of DSC by a long shot, but I'm afraid you don't get to say what's irrelevant or not in terms of other people's opinions of why they like the show (which YOU asked), or that there's really any problem with things other people like that you despise. Just this response alone makes it pretty clear that your intentions are not remotely 'no trolling intended.' But that's not my call to make.
