What do you guys actually like about discovery?

Burnham wasn't trying to make an argument that Ariam didn't need to be spaced... she just froze and couldn't pull the trigger.

That's not "being wrong". Although honestly it is one of the better Burnham moments, it's "being human".

An arbitrary distinction which serves only to muddy the waters of your flawed argument.

Was she right not to press the button?

No.

Therefore she was wrong.

See?

There's a lot I like about Discovery.
I love Burnham, Saru, Tilly, Stamets, Georgiou, Culber, Book, and Vance, Ash, Reno, and L'Rell.
Lorca is one of my top three favorite captains. (Sisko, Shaw, Lorca).
I love the portrayal of Mudd. "Magic To Make The Sanest Minds Go Mad" is a top ten episode for me.
Loved the twist of Pike choosing his fate.
I love their use of the mirror universe.
There are a lot of things that aggravate me about Discovery, but a lot of that is because there were so many things I thought they did SO WELL, and it's a shame to see the downsides.

I usually find things people dislike about Discovery are due to preconceptions.

My preconception was that it would be totally new with a new creative team, which was badly needed for the franchise. I accepted any changes.

Many Trekkies went in thinking it was Berman 2.0. Nope

I dislike the notion that any of my criticisms of Discovery are based on preconceived notions. The things that I criticize about Duscovery are from a narrative perspective.

You can look at about 85-90% of public reviews and my description is accurate. Most others are based on subjective opinions on something or other, including narrative.

What do I like? The intense emotion. The pulse-pounding action. The sense of family. What do I not like? The opening theme music by Jorp Russo. So when watching I mute that and play this:

As a habit I usually don't watch the opening theme/credits after the first or second new episode.

In my rewatch though I decided to watch it again after a long time and I'd forgotten how much I like it!

I'm making a clear distinction between those with a axe to grind and things that are actually subjective, in other words a lot of what we see which is negative isn't subjectively derived, there is intent behind it that is not valid.

Of course its valid. What makes it invalid and why would be invalidate someone's subjective opinion? :vulcan:

There are some who just hate it out of hand because of 'gays' or whatever, I do agree with that. And that's awful.

But, ill intent or not, it's as subjective as any other opinion.

All opinions are subjective, even the unpalatable ones.
