I'll show myself out.okay?
Chapel is mostly a blank slate. Her TOS portrayal was paper thin. SNW's version is superior in every way.I really like Bush, but I agree with those who felt she should've played a different character. Yeoman Colt was available if they didn't want to create a new character whole cloth.
Why? I think showing a young Uhura who's growing as an officer is a good moveI also like Gooding as Uhura, and I'm okay with her on the series because it allows for them to develop her character in ways that TOS didn't. However, I would also be okay with making her character new as well.
He was much more emotional in the pilots and early Season One. Most seem to think Peck is nailing it as Spock. Frankly I'm shocked at how much I'm liking him as Spock.Peck is okay as Spock, but I don't like how they make him too emotional and this season he seems to be the person they want to use for comic relief too much already.
Another paper thin character given actual depth and dimension on SNW.I would rather they have not used M'Benga, or perhaps just made this character a relative of TOS's M'Benga if they were dead set on using his name. It would avoid the questions about why he leaves the ship and then comes back as a medic under McCoy.

As fireproof said, people transfer on and off ships all of the time. My father spent 25 years in the USAF. He was deployed to several bases over those years, including a few TDY gigs. We moved almost every two to four years.
No canon problems with Uhura so far.I think that going with new characters opens the door for greater exploration, without any canon constraints. That's why I would be okay with not having Chapel, Uhura, and M'Benga onboard. I did mention that having Young Uhura aboard does lend to giving her character greater, and much deserved, development, though I would've been fine as well with Gooding playing a brand-new character.
Colt? Why? Nurse has more dramatic turns than yeoman. They've made good use of Chapel's science background since episode one. What's Colt going to do? File a report?Though I would rather have Bush playing Colt than Chapel if she had to play an established character so they wouldn't have to explain away Chapel's marriage or how the Spock-Chapel relationship in TOS came to be.
Or maybe it won't Years to go until "A Private Little War".When it comes to M'Benga, while people might get transferred, there is now the question of demotion, that might now have to be addressed.
So the parts seen in "The Menagerie" aren't canon????? Man, this canon stuff is confusing. It's more than the pilot. Spock is a bit different in WNMHGB and early season one. He has a rather puckish quality. As for Peck's performance, it might work for you, but I'm iffy on it. I know the go to argument for his emotionalism is the pilot, but that was an unaired pilot for twenty years (and while it was interspersed in "The Menagerie" that past version of Spock was juxtaposed to the more standard iteration of the character on TOS).
Gee is Ojibwa First Nation not Asian.I would be most interested in learning if Cara Gee (The Expanse) was considered for the role of La'an Noonien Singh. If a female "bad-ass" of Asian ancestry is required, I would think that Ms. Gee could have filled the bill, admirably.
What demotion?while people might get transferred, there is now the question of demotion, that might now have to be addressed.
Duly noted, my mistake. Her strikingly beautiful features could nonetheless easily pass for Asian.Gee is Ojibwa First Nation not Asian.
IIRC there is a connection between First Nations/Native Americans and East Asians.Duly noted, my mistake. Her strikingly beautiful features could nonetheless easily pass for Asian.
I'm no anthropologist, but I think there is SOME connection between the very western-most 1st Nation/Native Americans and the various Siberian and perhaps Yakut tribes. The pre-contact Ojibwe inhabited an area running from the western-most edge of Wisconsin, eastward to just west of Maine, along the U.S./Canadian border. I doubt that there was much blood mixed between them and the inhabitants of the Pacific rim.IIRC there is a connection between First Nations/Native Americans and East Asians.
The people who became the Ojibwe had to come from somewhere. Popular theory is there were several migrations from Asia to the Americas. With various groups moving deeper and deeper into the Americas, eventually inhabiting territory from Patagonia to Northern CanadaI'm no anthropologist, but I think there is SOME connection between the very western-most 1st Nation/Native Americans and the various Siberian and perhaps Yakut tribes. But, this makes great drama. So it works quite well.Bush is too good for Chapel.
