I was hoping that Disney (and Lucasfilm) would be involved with the next big Star Trek project.

Dear God no. I believe there is another Star franchise they messed up.

Let's start a petition. I hear those are all the rage.

Petitions on paper sent through the mail might actually get someone's attention. At least it would inconvenience them as they head to the shredder or circular file.
That would mean we'd have to leave our Mom's basements and go to the post office to get stamps though. So nah.

In all honesty, I'm not surprised season 2 will be the last. A bit disappointed, but not really surprised since a part of me expected it to end with the second season anyway.

The fact that it's being pulled from Paramount+ is somewhat shocking, but not really relevant to me anyway since as a Canadian, I'll still be able to watch the show on CTV Sci-Fi Channel anyway, just like all the other Treks.

Just saw this news on Twitter. I am very disappointed. Not only to cancel it but to pull it from Trek's home? What utter bullshit. Was looking forward to S2 in the fall. This was easily one of the better of the nuTrek shows. But the marketing for it was fumbled and shit from the get go. They didn't tie in the toys at launch to attract the kids they were supposedly aiming for. It launched on P+ before Nickelodeon so the audience was split. Adult Trek fans were confused as to whether or not they should even watch it. I was one of them who had no interest in watching a kids show until I took a chance on it.

It's clear that P+ is in trouble now, along with the majority of streaming services. Original programming on a thousand separate streamers all requiring their own subscriptions was a dubious business model that is dying quite quickly. Cutting the cable seemed like a good deal for consumers. But the reality for a lot of people, especially families, is they're paying more now than when they had the upper tier for cable. The shows that families like are scattered between so many different streams.

The people in charge of Star Trek right now need to reassess what they're doing with the franchise. The Starfleet Academy show should not have been green lit. Almost no buzz for that online and the Section 31 series/movie or whatever the hell they're doing with it after 5 years is DOA in my book. What's not unclear is the fact that PIC S3 did very well with it's audience and critics. They kind of gave the fans what they wanted and it did well. There's much clamoring for a subsequent follow up to S3 and what do they do with the momentum? Nothing. Say they're thinking about it... Fire these people.

There is a writer's strike right now, they literally aren't allowed to pitch new shows, never mind pitch and announce. It'll have to wait till the strike is over so that the WGA doesn't flip out. Honestly if not for the strike I believe Legacy would have been announced already, weeks ago at least.

Thankfully a deal might be reached by the the end of the month I hear or sooner, based on a modifier version of deal with the directors.

And SNW might or might not have a third season. There is talk of a SNW film. It could be like the special movies that were made for Babylon 5 when the main show was running, or the film might be the final aired SNW episode/film.

Even if they do resolve matters with the writers, the actors' might go on strike. They were given the authorization to go on strike on Monday.

The third season was written and was set to begin filming before the writer's strike began and forced production to go on pause. SNW's still getting a third season, it'll just be later than expected.

I suspect part of the reason they have to finish season 2 even though the show is being pulled from Paramount+ is because of the deal with Bell who I'm guessing still plans to air season 2.

Canada has always been the biggest fans of Star Trek. Here TNG was actually the number 1 show in Canada, a feat I don't think got replicated in any other country. Its why Bell pays a premium for Star Trek to the point where its worth more to Paramount to rent ST out instead of putting it on Paramount+ Canada.

I'm happy to watch animation and gave the first half of S1 a go. I appreciate it for what it was, but it just wasn't something I was in the mood for. Appears to have been a hit with a subset of established fans - not so much with the target demographic.

For the time being, I would think SNW and the Yeoh film are the only projects in production or planned that are safe.

After rereading the cancellation articles, I'm beginning to think now that we'll never see Season 2 and this idea about selling the show is a meager hope at best, no different from Willow showrunner Jonathan Kasdan claiming that Willow is "on hiatus" and not really canceled, etc. Even Season 1 of Prodigy is being pulled from Paramount Plus. The only episodes still legally available after Prodigy is removed will be the 10 episodes released on blu-ray.

The line about a potential buyer is likely just a bone to throw at fans to prevent online campaigns etc. to bring back the show. It's dead, and I don't think any buyer's realistically going to grab it.

Sad irony is they supposedly intended to feature Harry on Prodigy, where he almost certainly would have had a higher rank.

Makes me wonder if they knew this was coming... I don't think they are continuing the old vendetta against Garrett, but they might not want to feature Harry again in any "canon" Trek... as much as I want to see the "eternal ensign" crowd get their hearts broken, the powers that be might disagree.

Kids already have too much media specifically catered to them, from Minecraft/Roblox, to Spider-Man and superheroes. They aren't a demo that had a viable opening for Trek.

The demo I saw was Trekkies or sci-fi fans and their kids. That's why the makers of Prodigy were careful to ensure that it was Trek to the core, so that families could watch it together and enjoy it.

I liked the show, but I never figured for a second that it would catch on with the kiddies.

I didn't expect it to rely completely on the younger set. But I figured it might be an entry point into the greater Trek phenomenon for younger viewers. And even with only 40 episodes, it might yet be just that.

Hell, even if they do all the things to make it ready for seeing, they may pull it for a tax write off (see Batgirl). Talking about Batgirl, from what I have read, it seems that Paramount is giving Prodigy Season 2 the Batgirl treatment. I can't imagine that Prodigy Season 2 was so bad that it would be given this treatment, and yet there it is.

The difference here is that Batgirl is completely locked away with no intention of ever releasing it. Paramount is trying to find a new home for Prodigy.

Hell, even if they do all the things to make it ready for seeing, they may pull it for a tax write off (see Batgirl). Talking about Batgirl, from what I have read, it seems that Paramount is giving Prodigy Season 2 the Batgirl treatment. I can't imagine that Prodigy Season 2 was so bad that it would be given this treatment, and yet there it is.

The only way that Prodigy season 2 doesn’t see the light of day is if Paramount fails to find a buyer.

I just hope it doesn't turn into a Glow season 4 situation where Netflix decided to cancel it, after the first episode had already been filmed before the pandemic shut everything down. Granted, the close nature of the wrestling scenes were problematic during the early days of the pandemic before they'd figured out set protocols, but studios are so profit hungry now that any excuse will do to save them on taxes.

Goodness, I have legit been told for years that Kathleen Kennedy's critics were all men who supposedly hate a woman in power etc. and I've been reading this so long that I half started believing it myself. So I'll have to admit it did surprise me that a female poster is also criticizing Kathleen Kennedy, because that is not the narrative I've seen repeated on almost all Star Wars forums.

No offense, I'm glad to also meet someone who has the same problems with her choices like hiring Rian Johnson etc. But I just feel like I've seen the internet equivalent of Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster.
