DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

Sasha Calles has met with Peter Safran re her future (or lack thereof?) in DC. I hope it goes better for her than Henry Cavill’s went.

Interesting and a little encouraging.
Considering her character's callous treatment in The Flash, for which Safran and Gunn were apparently personally responsible in significant part, I wasn't holding out much hope, but if Safran took the time to have a sitdown with her ....
You should maybe spoiler-code that one
For real.

The Flash opening weekend box office numbers worse than Black Adam
https://www.dexerto.com/tv-movies/t...office-numbers-worse-than-black-adam-2181447/
DC’s newest film, The Flash, has finally released in theatres and despite receiving mostly positive reviews, the movie’s opening box office numbers are even worse than the universally panned Black Adam movie that released at the end of 2022.

.
According to measurement film Comscore and as reported by The Los Angeles Times, The Flash only made $55.1 million at the domestic box office and globally brought that total up to $130.1 million.

Therefore, The Flash has had a worse opening weekend at the box office than Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam solo film which recorded $67 million domestically in its opening weekend...

Is it possible that the Aquaman movies get grandfathered from the DCEU to the DCU? Jason Momoa seems pretty irreplaceable.

I'd rather see Momoa as Lobo, with Aquaman recast.
Thing is, Aquaman is the single-most silliest superhero in mainstream. A fish-talking dude in a yellow sweater and green tights with a fishscales print? I wonder if Aquaman can work with anybody but Momoa.

Most, if not all, super-heroes are "silly" if you break them down into their component parts. My preference would be for a filmmaker who like the actual character from the comics to make a straight adaptation. I'd pick "Death of a Prince" by Michelinie and Aparo, but there are many great stories by Peter David and even recent stories by Geoff Johns.

Also, Momoa's Maori heritage helps ground the idea of Aquaman in a culture very connected to the ocean. Of course, that's the Pacific and Atlantis is the Atlantic, but it still gives an added layer of meaning to Momoa playing the role, which wouldn't be there if he were Lobo.

Plus, Aquaman spends more time with his shirt off than Lobo, which is a consideration if you're a filmmaker hoping to draw Momoa's fans into the theater.

On the other hand, Superman Returns was a slavish tribute / sequel to the Salkind's Superman films (arguably a version people were used to seeing thanks to then-decades of home media releases), yet it was rejected for the very reason mentioned time and again: it was not 1978 any longer, and no one was looking for that kind of interpretation in the 21st century.

It is no wonder the "oohhh! It's s-s-so daaarrrk!" Man of Steel was a far more successful film, with Cavill's interpretation celebrated...to this day. Dwayne Johnson was not just being a salesman when he said Cavill was the Superman of our time.

After the weird ideas from all the failed 90's attempts at Superman

https://thepopcultist.wordpress.com...rs-and-a-giant-spider-nearly-ruined-superman/

Jon Peters wanted Lex Luthor to have a cuddly space dog like Chewbacca, and he needed Brainiac to have a robot sidekick which he described as a “gay R2-D2 with attitude.” He wanted Brainiac to fight polar bears in the Arctic, and he really, really didn’t want to see Superman in the blue and red suit. It had to be black.

They went back and tried to redo 1978 Superman and Jon Peters even said in the 2006 documentary "Look to the Sky" that the 90's attempts "Didn't have the heart" that makes Superman work

The general audience wasn't impressed with "Superman Returns"

"He didn't punch anything!"

So they overcorrected with Snyder and had the destruction porn for the 3rd act.

Long story short. I don't think even Gunn will succeed because no one can get Superman to be relevant again.
