Spoilers Canon, Continuity, and Pike's Accident

What about M*A*S*H*?
Perfect example.

Great examples, except that ^ 70s Daniel Jackson. That’s just the same guy, right?Even Sarah Connor (the movie character, not the singer) got recast in the Chronicles. On the other hand, they did restore the actors’ appearances in the Terminator 6 prologue. That’s what we could do for Star Trek shows.

Im reminded that in the German dub, the Tom Paris voice actor changed partway through the VOY series.

I guess ten or twenty years down the line, people can have an app on their Vision Pro or whichever that can AI-deepfake the visuals while you’re watching.

Could but why? I'm looking for performance art not perfect recreation. Recasting is 100% a part of fiction.
Because it impairs the impression that what we are watching is real.

We didn’t have the tech until now to visually correct for recasting. Picard season 3 flashbacks showed JL and Riker de-aged instead of recast.

Imagine the prequels that could be done, like a 2230s-era Stargazer series with a digital Picard and a voice impersonator. Uniforms, warp effects, ship hull details recreated just like they were on TNG.

It's a fictional TV series, not a historical documentary.

What you're suggesting is silly.

Nothing needs to being god damn corrected. Recasting isn't an error that needs to be fixed.

The actors can still act. Avatar shows digitised characters where actors still emote etc.

TPTB could hire a performer with a contract for one season. Voice correction and digital visuals then maintain the character’s continuity while the actor is replaced each season to keep production costs low. Might allow shows to be more financially successful.

This sorta shit is exactly why writers are on strike and actors are probably about to join them. Do you realize how incredibly wrong EVERYTHING is that you're saying?

It's asinine! Jesus H. Christ......

You may be right and I may be wrong.
But it’s happening. This BBC article gives an example how a character in Fast Furios was portrayed by three brothers but looks like only one of them on screen: https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20150511-could-marilyn-star-in-a-new-film

We could have a future were I watch an ep of SNW and switch filters to see it the way it looked like upon release, or with “The Cage” visuals restored.
